RD Use In NYC

Are there any restrictions in using a RD in NYC ( all 5 boroughs )? A friend of mine says there is but I am skeptical. I searched here but found no topics relating to this.

For non-commerical vehicles, only VA and military bases is it illegal to operate an RD.

I use one there a lot. You wont find any cars running radar in manhattan but on the west side highway and the henry hudsin parkway you might. However in those areas you are much more likely to find laser traps.

It's tough if you are on Manhattan, I turned my volume to 0. No real point, as you will be constantly 5+ with varying bands and occasional laser hit from a source that is untraceable and is obviously not running laser.

If you get to the outer burroughs and get on a highway, it becomes much more effective, however still relatively noisy and more of a novelty to attempt to figure out if someone around you has anything on.

West LI was bad as well... No one rides around with radar on. Many vehicles don't HAVE radar installed (all Nassau 'highway patrol' marked cars do, along with some in precincts that cover the highways, and of course every Lynbrook police car [happens to be 2/3 of all cars in the town] have all the newest gizmo's). Only thing I can detect back home is CVS.

its noisy but on the way to the airport i picked up cops running Ka. K/X is all over the place and makes things very annoying due to all those door openers. NJ cops use X a lot when exiting NYC so take care in those areas. maybe enable only Ka in NYC ? it might be more tolerable. i have an STI BTW.

I would think a Bel or Escort product would be the best to use in/around NYC. Better have it in city mode there due to probably an un heard of amount of falses.

I turn it of when in the middle of manhttan but on the highways and such my RX65 is very good. I can drive the west side highway from 59th street to 114street and i only get one k flase at K1 so it isn't really a problem and i'm not even in cuty mode. I would stay away from the V1 for your driving though since it is more sensitive yours going to get a lot of flases.
