Default Windshield and Remote Mounted Detectors Together?

    Hi,

I recently just purchased a second hand Bel 975R off eBay for a very good price (AU$100). I have the Escort X50 which is an excellent all rounder, but not the best for multanovas and I was just going to experiment with installing the 975R and dedicating that to Ka narrowband to pick out those multanovas. The main reason I bought it was since it was so cheap and I just wanted to see what would happen.

I know two detectors are never supposed to be run at the same time, but that is for windshield mounted radar as it is easy for the radio waves to interfere.

But what about a dash mounted and a remote mounted radar? Would there be much interference between these two detectors??? If there are a lot of barriers between them in a car, would that be effective enough to protect each detector from the radiation from the other one?

    Thanks.

In my case, yes they interfered with each other. My X50 was sending out a signal that my remote mounted detector would pick up. The remote mounts were in the front bumper and rear bumper, and the control unit was on the steering column. My X50 would pick up the remote mounts as well, but I forgot which band.

I figured this out because everytime I turned on the X50, the other one would alert immediately and every 30 secs thereafter, but never alert at any time while the X50 was off. I don't know if either one was affected performance wise, but I took the remote mounted one off anyways for peace of mind. Besides, all the alert tones sounded the same so it was hard to distinguish which band it was picking up and it was probably 90's technology. It was originally a $1000+ detector too, but it came with the car so I wasn't really throwing my own money away.

Which remote mounted detector did you use with your Escort?

OK, well I would only use the Bel 975 for narrowband Ka to get a much greater advantage on multanovas. So I would disable X, K, pop (probably leave laser on), and have my Escort run all the other bands that I need. If a band on a radar detector is disabled, will it still produce radiation at a similar frequency or not?

Are there any good guides on making detectors radiation proof (within a reasonably small budget)?

might work just try to keep some distance from the radar detector and the remote antenna
