Default remote vs dash mount radar detector

Couldn't find any satisfactory answers or conclusive data so perhaps someone here can answer or steer me to right link.

I own and use both X50 and V1 (current year version) and both are satisfactory and comparable in performance. V1 seems to have a farther range but more falses on laser. Also V1 is harder to read which band its detecting. I like that the escort states it clearly. But I'm hoping for something even better...

Doesn't matter to me whether the unit is hidden. Are there performance advantages of remote systems over dash mount (libor funtion excluded)?

Ive read dash mount offers higher sensitivity for all bands/laser because better postioning.
    - is this true?

I've read for laser they shoot at your plate so sensors mounted lower are better.
    - If this is true does it mean less effective to radar when compared to dash units?

I'm considering the escort SR7 and Bel RX75 Pro (both with out laser function).

    thnx!

As far as the laser detection goes - 99% of the time that a RD alerts to laser (remote or dash mount) you are already toast. You need a laser jammer and/or Veil.

As far as long-range detection, there is actually a performance DISadvantage with both the SR7 and RX-75. http://www.radarbusters.com/support/product-tests/2.asp

Real world, I have heard that they hold their own pretty well.

appears the Bel STI Driver is outperforming X50 and V1... your choice?

    VEIL... interesting.

Laser jammer, would love to but too risky...

    Thanks!

The Valentine One is still #1 according to the latest independent test.

now got me thinking about the laser shifter SR3 since it can interface with my x50. what value added is that exactly?

i know this has to do with behavior and protocol for the area, but in general how likely is it that enforcement would come after a jammer user on suspicion rather than wait for the next sitting duck?

looking at the results they can be trusted however Jazzy like to see the results show the V1 in the best light and during the last GOL event that is how the V1 performed but then again there have been since updates to the STi

When your jammer goes off get to the PSL then shut the unit down. LEO should get a reading then and not suspect anything too much.

I can't give you much real world advice about the ZR3 since it has not taken a hit yet in the 7 months I've had it installed. From my research it is a good jammer against the ProLaser III which is only laser threat I have to worry about down here.

First, check this link to find out if jammers are legal in your state
    http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...550&highlight=
Next, I don't know where you live but follow this link and check for the guns used in your area.
    http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=5788

Be advised it has been observed that the ZR3 cannot jam the Laser Atlanta gun so if that gun is a threat in your area then you may need to research other options.

There will be a little loss in range for radar when compared to high windshield mount. Dash mount makes the difference a tad bit less. But all these factors are less influence when compared to some in real world like traffic, terrain, foliage, etc which reflect/scatter the radar signals. So real world performance should be a tad bit less than the X50/RX65.

They have different sensors for radar and laser. You could mount your radar sensor on top of your roof for best radar performance and the laser sensor on the plate for best laser performance. Most don't because the difference is negligible. as wanderingmind said, the laser sensor at the plate is less likely to pick up scatter than a higher mounted sensor (especially off the hood). Since the expectation is that the detector give warning from scatter, a dash/high mounted detector has a better chance but not reliable enough - that's why one needs active/passive jammers to buy a few seconds. However, the plate mounted laser sensor will rarely miss a direct hit - even at close range.

The laser sensor in these have just the receiver sensor. Their jammer counterparts have jamming LEDs and functionality added.

One display to look at adjust. Plus hitting mute twice disables the jammer xmitting but still has detection. If laser alert persists for a few seconds after you stop jamming (after you correct speed), then you know you jammed until safe.

The less you frustrate LEO, lesser the probability of LEO coming after you. Even though a jammer may not be explicitly banned in your state/country, LEO could throw the book at you.

I don't understand this logic at all

    1) laser jamming is only illegal in a few states
    2) even if it IS illegal in your state, in most cases it's a no point violation, whereas speeding is a point violation, and most of the time the fine is LESS for a jammer than for speeding, so which would you rather receive?
