i'd say definately 10-20 years they will become obselete with to a new technology, but there may be a countermeasure or something new. might notn even be radar/laser/lidar anymore. might be a [insert weird name] Detector!
Not at all. With Laser cops have the advantage now but we will win the war....until all cars are tracked.
I could see that all radar detectors communicate with one another, "online" so to speak. All false alarms would be eliminated due to GPS technology and you would have a 3.5" LCD screen that would show you where other detectors within 10 miles miles are getting a true radar or laser report.
And / or the driver could hit a button if he sees a radar / laser trap and it would broadcast the location to other detectors within a few miles in real time....just like a CB radio.
Think about it..... you are driving and your detector beeps, not for a radar alarm but for a broadcast.... you hit "ok" and the other driver within a few miles would call out the location and what is going on.
Those are my ideas.

Think about it this way when law enforcement started using I/O people lost faith in there detectors. Then we had the idea of the RABBIT.
LASER became more popular, and now we have Laser jammers that work very effectively.
ANY new technology that comes our way we will find a way to beat it.
Also with new advancements in technology mean new advancements in countermeasure technology.
Plus you can always slow down. "NO WAY DUDE"
First mod to my new car would be deactivation/removal of their tracking system. That or I am gonna keep my old car.
RDs will work, till the government decided to chip all of us to "protect us from terrorists." Of course at first people will object, but as soon as they realize they can save 5 cents per gallon on gas by using their sub-dermal chip they'll be lining up like sheep.
I wonder what a bulk-eraser would do to one of those? :wink:Originally Posted by lordhamster
I like this idea. With a bunch of detectors reporting thier alerts, it would be a really simple matter for software to look at the history of alerts in a location to tell that it was a false alert. Separating the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. Satellite or cellular system to upload & download the locations real-time. I'm not sure the highway robbers could overcome a really good communications system. Sorta looks like the future NavAlert, maybe?Originally Posted by teeto
I would like to think that in 10-20 years speed traps would be abolished, along with unreasonably underposted speed limits and revenue-based speed enforcement... or that the US learns from Germany and removes speed limits from rural highways altogether, but I'm just dreaming...
As for technology, when video-based speed measurement devices come out, they'll be undetectable.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!
If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?
