Default Will microwave oven destroy RD?

RD's are illegal in Ontario. The RD will be taken by the police if found. If you defend yourself against the charge and WIN, the RD is returned to you. On a Canadian police forum, an RCMP officer suggests throwing the RD in the microwave for a few seconds before retuning it. Will this destroy the unit? My understanding of microwave ovens is that they only vibrate (heat) water molecules.

If for some reason a charge was lost in court and the person wanted the SMWD back, return to detachment, put it in a box and seal "very well" with "Red Green tape" and then the SMWD is back in a sealed package. Not too mention the fun of the person trying to get in the box Smile

OR... throw it in a microwave for a couple of seconds before returning it... does wonders.
    Ooops... did I say that?

Microwaves are absorbed by the foods, by exciting the molecules in water ... and this is why food is cooked so good and efficiently in the microwave, cause those vibrating molecules...

With that said metal shouldn't go in the microwave because, the metal does not absorb the microwave energy, but instead it refelects it... So if a large enough concetration energy is reflected by the metal in the RD (or the case of the mag. RD's: STi/V1) it would ruin the microwave which would be just as expensive to them as ruining the RD.

Not to mention most plastic models may melt in there if left long enough, and again the metal in the RD's (Horn assembleies persay), could damage the microwave.

As for if it would kill the RD, I dont know... (again the plastic cases may melt/warp though).

Not to mention... I think the microwave-ovens are built to only shield people from food being cooked (where many microwaves are absorbed by the food)... so the reflection of the microwaves may cause shielding issues causing the brilliant person putting metal in the microwave oven... possible health concerns.

Having been present when a camcorder was placed in an oven which was then activated, I believe you could count on the RD being destroyed by such an act.

However, that would be unauthorized destruction of the owner's property.

1000-1500 watts of RF energy in close proximity will almost certainly damage the more sensitive components inside the detector.

Illegal to use or not, the police are supposed to take reasonable steps to ensure that any items in their custody are returned to their rightful owner undamaged as long as the item isn't illegal to possess.

the bastards have my passport 8500!

I was wondering if Ontario police have to give the RD back regardless or if confiscation is part of the rd penalty.

A friend of mine from Detroit tried this w/ an old Escort rd, and it fryed it. I guess you could see some of the lights go on while in the microwave, but it does fry it. That is quite low for the O.P.P to be frying people's rd's. How would they feel if we fryed their Spectres?

Someone in Canada could always build a HERF gun and fry their Spectres on a parked, unattended police car
