I will be giving one of these a try in the future. Especially how they are turning over some zombies

If you are out on the main highways without to many automatic doors in sight on your daily commutes, then I would say the v1 would serve you well.

    neither is perfect.
Let's do a poll on which radar detector company makes the most solid product with the best performance, best support, upgradeabilty and Valentine Research will win with at least 75% of the votes.
Why? So the trolls can vote yes and feel good about their detector?

Until a die hard v1 fan gives the competition a try, their opinion on which is better is irrelevent.
I have tried the V1 instead of the STi and I like the STi better. The STi definately gives me much more range when the LEO's setup with forward facing Ka radar up ahead. The X band sensitivity on the V1 is just too much, in fact using the STi in NJ the STi is also too sensitive on X band. But I don't really care about X band because it is turned off on my detector most of the time. Only backward places like Ohio and New Jersey use X band anyways. Even though the V1 has better sensitivity on K band in our GOL test and lab test, when I use the V1 in the real world I don't notice hardly any gain in range on K band compared to the STi. Maybe only a little bit in a few radar setups but not enough to make a difference especially when the V1 gets smoked by my STi in 35.5 Ka band detection overall. When I test the V1 vs STi in real world driving it seems the V1 only matches the STi on 35.5 when the radar is on a flat straight road. Overall I get more consistent warning against 35.5 Ka band with the STi then I do the V1. I like the STi's radar detection better than the V1, but I like the V1's features better. With me, warning time always beats features when choosing a detector. It is a good thing I like the STi the best because pretty soon it will be the only detector to use in VA so the Spectre won't catch you.

I guess some people might call me a STi zombie. But really I'm just providing the truth from my experiences. Some people might have a better experience with the V1. Both are great detectors so you can't go wrong with choosing either one as long as Spectre isn't a factor.

Belscort got the STI right! Belscort has "got it right" in my opinion with 2 detectors in the last 7 years. They are the Escort Passport 8500 (model before the X50) and the Beltronics STi Driver. I give every other high end dash mounted radar detector Belscort has made in the past 7 years a thumbs down.
