Default IL to FL road trip with V1 and STi

I just got back from a 2500 mile road trip traveling with my V1 and STi. About 15 saves and no tickets!!! I saw a bit of everything on this trip, even the dreaded 33.8Ghz Ka while using my STi. I haven't updated my STi for the 33.8Ghz fix yet, but I had no problem detecting 33.8Ghz in my only encounter.

The closest call came when I was crossing the state line from Alabama to Florida and I saw the LEO raise his laser gun and point it at my car. I know I was going about 80 MPH at the time, but as soon as I saw him raise the laser gun I was on the brakes hard. I guess I got my speed down fast enough, or they didn't clock me because they didn't pull me over. I was using the STi at the time, but never received a laser alert.

Both the V1 and STi ATE up the Ka!!! I was getting around 1-2 miles of detection when the LEO's were using CO. And MOST of my encounters in the south were CO.

The V1 correctly J'd out about 5 alerts, but did fail to J out 2 cheap RD's. Not too bad considering the total number of junk detectors I encountered on my trip.

The K band drones around Atlanta GA got real old as they were setup about every 2 miles over a 15 mile or so stretch. The bogey counter on the V1 came in handy during this part of my trip because I did find a few LEO's hiding near the drones. I also saw some Ka band drones in TN.

I had a few Ka encounters with the V1 that were a bit close and 1 K band encounter that was a bit close with my STi. Overall both detectors performed very well. The STi is such a user friendly RD that I REALLY gained a whole new level of respect for it on my trip. The filtering in Autoscan was simply brilliant!

The longest detection goes too........ the V1. I picked up some Ka for what seemed to be about 5 miles on I75 in FL. I am guessing he was running 34.7Ghz Ka since I saw a few of them using this on my way down to FL with the STi.

If it was a trooper, it was Stalker. A lot of the other counties also use Stalker, as well.

Glad to see you liked both detectors Were you able to see what type of laser gun it was?

Man it seemed like I was looking right down the scope at his eyes!! I was so close, but I didn't see any words on the gun. It was black and looked like it might of had some blue markings on the side. And the gun looked sort of wide/bulky. Not sure if that tells you anything?

No it was a family trip and I didn't want to embarrass my family with all the dumb stuff that I KNOW I would have recorded! I was really kicking myself though because some of the range I was seeing was really great from both detectors. Also, the NUMBER of radar encounters was very very high! I could have released a DVD!

I can tell you I saw 34.7Ghz and 35.5Ghz with the STi in FL. The 35.5Ghz was on highway 19 as I was heading south towards Tampa. The LEO was in a unmarked brown crown vic I believe.

Yea, the grand majority of Florida seems to have Stalker. A couple places do have 35.5 Ka Can't say I've ever came across 33.8 around these parts.

The 33.8 I saw was in TN I believe, but I'll have to think about it as I am still a bit punchy from the trip. (heh) I just got back about 2hrs ago.

They seem to like CO in most of the south, which is a nice change from the radar nazi's of IL. I did see some IO Ka in Kentucky today! But I swear guys I am going to have some nightmares about the laser encounter!! My heart jumped out of my chest when I saw that laser gun raise to target me!
