Wasn't Uniden banned from building radar detectors? Or was it simply a key part of their previous designs that was banned, allowing them to produce detectors with different designs?

It's not that they were prohibited from making detectors, its just that they're detectors didn't meet the FCC Part 15 rules (the detectors interfered read: leaked too much).

Now, if this new detector is ok with the FCC, then it can be sold in the US.
