I couldn't agree more. I noticed that Uniden, contrary to years ago, doesn't even mention this radar detector's sensitivities in the user manual.

I would love for Jimbonzzz to comment on what he sees in the LO board design. The Professor is the guru for deciphering what is going on within RD designs.

    Things which caught my attention:

-- A LO board with plug-in contacts to the main circuit board? Oxidation and resulting capacitance issues with those plug-in contacts likely is going to be a major reliability issue down the road.

-- The radar horn is rather widely horizontally flared. That horn design is probably going to have some major off-axis phase cancellation issues, greatly reducing this radar detector's sensitivity for off-axis radar and in particular for some specific frequencies and off-axis angles.

Lets just all pray that this new Uniden doesn't present additional filtering headaches for Belscort, Whistler and Valentine. Yet knowing how the overseas designed BG Tech, Cobra, PNI and RMR radar detectors present headaches for B, W and V, I will bet that this new "thing" from Uniden will!

But on the bright side, this RD should perform better than a PNI or RMR radar detector! It might even perform slightly better than a Cobra.

Uniden, famed for leaky detectors. Great. :x

Lets give them a fair chance and be open minded before we attack. No doubt there are plenty of **** out there and I hope Uniden does not contribute to the pile

Guys don't under-estimate this detector just yet. There's no input preamplification, so I wouldn't expect it to perform in V1/STI territory. But I don't think they just slapped it together either: on first glance, I see a couple of things which lead me to believe that they "borrowed" heavily from Belscort designs:

    1. The 1st LO is a push-push oscillator, which is a signature Belscort trait, albeit a somewhat different design.

    2. The front end also appears to be a Belscort copy, perhaps they're even using a sub-harmonic mixer like the Belscorts.

As for the rest, maybe I'll have some time to go through it this weekend...

what really strikes me is the nimble power connection. it looks terribly easy to break.
