Default Auxiliary speaker constant source/battery question...

Okay, I know there are a lot of people on this forum with more electronic expertise than me, so:

I have an Escort X50 on my bike (motorcycle, not bicycle). I also have an Escort auxiliary speaker that I am going to hookup to it. The way I have the RD unit, is hardwired to a constant source via an empty fuse slot. However, I always take it with me when the bike is off, so it does not drain power.

I was just wondering. I can tap into the same source with the speaker, right? Will it only draw power when alerting or will it constantly drain the battery a little?

If it’s a constant source there will be constant power even if you remove your RD. You could make a series circuit after your RD so when it’s removed there will be no power or you could just install a switch.

Yes, the external speaker will drain your battery. It did mine until Escort told me which circuit to tap on the C6. I just tapped into one of the two switchable circuits available. It doesn't need much power but keep an inline fuse on the red wire just in case.

THanks guys. I think I will just tap into a headlight wire. Then the RD will work anytime it is plugged up. And the auxiliary speaker will only work when the ignition is on and the bike is running.

Thats a complex way just to make a switch.
