The EIP 1.8T ECU upgrade adds 30+ Wheel Horsepower and 50+ ft. lbs. of Wheel Torque to the stock 150 Horsepower Beetle, Golf IV, Jetta IV 1.8T's.

EIP offers a 20+ Wheel Horsepower and 60+ ft. lbs. of Wheel Torque to the factory 180 horsepower 1.8T's such as the 20Th Anniversery and 2004 Jetta GLI.

This simple modification makes a clear difference in performance that you can feel immediately behind the drivers seat. Timing and fuel maps are adjusted along with an increase of overall boost to a maximum of 1.1 bar.

Bah I can solder in a 5 cent resistor and wire into my APC box and get 1.4 bar! But then my transmission will shear the input shaft...

    Default Chips

Hey, I was thinking about getting a new chip for my car, 99 mustang gt. I heard they make your engine run real rich. I also heard they're terrible for the engine in the long run. Any truth to that?

Even the guys at my dealer's shop said that chipping my Jetta GLI would make a big difference in my pickup. That surprised me -- I thought for sure they'd recommend against it. My cousin also said he had a mod chip in a car he owned, and he could really feel the power difference. So I looked around a bit, and found this site: http://www.goapr.com/VW/products/ecu..._jetta18t.html

They've got standard mod chips, but what I found cool was the ones that are reprogrammable on the fly (the EMCS units). Basically you use the cruise control switch to change between different configurations, including factory default settings if you want to change back to those. Hella pricey though... about $500 for the chip, plus $150-$300 for extra configurations. Does have some other cool features though, like making the user enter a 1-4 digit security code before the car can be started (so even if a thief got your keys, they couldn't start the car). I imagine something like that would decrease comp. coverage on insurance.

There's a local dealer that installs these, and I think I heard mention that they will give a free 30 day trial. Might have to try that, though after buying the Passport X50, it'll take a bit to save up for such a thing.

Unfortunately, that would probably cost more than the mod chip.
