I think that quote deserves some attention, it's gotta suck to get into a fender bender and find out your jammers just got pwn3d. I wonder if that's covered under full coverage or if the other party hit you if you can go after the damages?

As with anything jammer-related, there are compromises to be made.

Between the parameters of coverage, aesthetics, and physical protection of the head (from debris, theft, or bumper-taps/collisions), one must typically choose to bias for/against one or the other, in one way or another.

Usually, cutting into the bodywork can help reach further compromises between these factors, helping achieve a more "ideal" final setup, but even then, it's still no guaranty that you can get all three areas covered.

Out of personal experience:

More than likely, in a rear-ending situation, dj's rear sensors will get crunched. In a bumper/love-tap situation, he should still be OK, unless, for some reason, the other car's bumper directly intruded into his plate-void.

For the front, his install is well protected by the front bumper beam. However, with most accident situations that involve another vehicle, the upper grill will likely be either damaged or displaced - but more than likely, the jammer heads and radar antenna will escape unharmed, except maybe for some scratches on the outer lenses.

With a below-the-bumper mount, the heads are likely to be "popped off" their mounts, or simply bent back with the flexible bumper skin. In most cases, it should still be OK.

Yes, I've had this happen to me.

And yes, I've seen the results of others' crashes, on various of my automotive Forum participation.

In almost all cases, the jammer heads have come through, unscathed.

In one particular case, a head-on crash that totaled the car and rendered much of the forward-of-front-axles components un-usable, the SR7 (ZR3) jammer heads and radar antenna still were unharmed.

Congrats Dj on a really nice set-up. Nice clean install. I must admit I was concerned about the performance issue of the CI when you first tested it, until you got it ironed out. Amazing how a little blockage of the grill kills the performance of the CI units, especially since they are designed to be concealed.

Yeah, totally crazy! I was completely shocked. I mean, you could basically see right through my grill and it still made a huge difference. My local Escort dealer is pretty pissed about this too, since Escort has told them for years that these type of installs are just fine. Now we all know that this is totally false. The 9500ci will still detect everything mounted like that, but definitely not up to the level that a RD that costs this much should. It should be the best and now that mine is mounted correctly, it is.

As an AUTHORIZED installer, without any real knowledge of radar detection of performance, I would be pretty chapped with Escort's advisory on it's own products that could adversely effect my customers. Customer's would see Escort Authorized, and expect the installer is trained and knows what they're doing and blame the installer for these type of installs when the customer learns the truth. But in reality installers install a variety of products and can only do what they were instructed by Escort to begin with. This now adversely effects the appearance of the installer. It pisses me off that escort puts a lot of money into R&D, but doesn't seem to train their CS department correctly, which adversely effects customers and installers.
