Default Some questions - need answered asap

Im about to be leaving for a road trip.
We are going from Texas to New Mexico.
    Questions:
    1) Does tinting on your car affect anything?
    2) I have a GPS also located on my windshield, i put the RD above the GPS so the RD is in the middle of the windsheild, is that the best spot or higher?

    -Thanks alot

should be fine. tint does affect depending on the kinda of tint...
if it is a regular ink one it is no problem, if it is metallic then it is a big problem.

But only if you mount your radar detector behind the tint.

    1. There are certain windsheilds that can reduce preformance on detectors, I forgot where the link to what cars have these windsheilds are.

    2. It's been reproted that bright GPS screens can cause false laser alerts on escort detectors. Try to mount the GPS and the detector not so close to eachother and you should be fine.

Ok thanks, so I should put the RD higher on the windsheild close to the top?

Don't mount it too high unless it's a V1 or you will lose all chance at laser detection.

Higher on the windshield will give you slightly better radar performance. Lower on the windshield will give you better laser performance.

Many people on this forum prefer higher up because if you get a laser alert it's basically letting you know you just received a ticket. So better off with going up high.

My RD is mounted high directly under rearview mirror.

My 9500ix picks up laser just fine mounted really high, even though the V1 is more sensitive. Laser detection shouldn't be much of a concern anyway.

AFAIK the OP has a Whistler Pro-78 type platform which is not all that godly when it comes to laser detection. I don't think there's too big of a benefit of mounting it way too high. Of course, that's the holy war around here
