Default Speed Limit XX / Radar Enforced

As a new 9500ix user, I am learning many new things. And trying to pay attention to old things...

I am beginning to notice more and more of the 'Radar Enforced' signs.

    I'll ask a stupid question...

What does it mean that speed is 'radar enforced'?

Why can't LEO's choose to use radar on any road they choose?

Exactly what needs to happen to qualify a particular stretch of road capable of being patrolled/monitored via radar?

And if a road is not labeled as 'radar enforced', is it possible that lidar may be used?

    Thanks again...

These signs are MUTCD approved signs that are basically just informing drivers to take the speed limit more seriously for that particular road. Perhaps there were lots of accidents on that road, or it's near a school or something. It has been my experience that the "radar enforced" roads are rarely even enforced. Radar can be used anywhere, as well as laser. It's just basically a sign to scare you into obeying the limit.

A lot of states require the localities to post signs saying they use radar as part of the state allowing them to use radar. In GA the locality has to post a sign saying electronic speed measuring devices in use. And one saying red light cameras in use. They are typically on roads just as you cross into the jurisdiction.

I'll second what Lucky said. Radar and lidar can be used on practically any road here in FL. Also, here in Florida, as well as other places, you'll see the "Patrolled by Aircraft" sign.

Yea, this guys from Cali, so I had to give a straight answer since I've lived there. Cali even has 'Speed Enforced by Aircraft' signs, even though VASCAR is illegal per vc 40802

I think some places do it after they get accused of operating an illegal or not so illegal "speedtrap". Just to appease the public... not for any explicit legal reason.
