Replacing the Bel 985

I'm thinking about replacing my Bel 985 with a V1 but I can't really tell if it's worth it. I like my 985 but I would have more piece of mind with a V1, plus the arrows are cool. But paying $400 for a V1 seems insane. Are they really worth $400?

I don't speed a lot because cops here love Instant On and Laser. I just put Veil and Laser Sheild on my car last night so I'm not as worried about Laser as I once was but I don't have any comfort knowing the LEO love Instant On so much.

What would you guys do?

The Bel 985 is still a great detector, I would recommend you keep it and use the money toward a laser jammer instead.

Thanks for the advice. I would buy a jammer but they are illegal in this state and the LEO love to bust people's ass here. I think I keep it cool and just stick with the Veil and Laser Sheild.

I have a 985.....great detector. Bought a V1 this summer.
Personally for me it was worth it.
The arrows ROCK.

I also have a 985. Today I ran with the RX-65 V-1 and 985. Now since I am running these all together I can't say who is first in detection because the do interfere a little. But from driving all over the place today they all seem to be pretty even. But from our testing it didn't have the range of the newer detectors.

But I love having arrows so it really depends on what you want.

I am in the same situation, I would get the V1, but what has me hanged up is the falses, my 985 is very quiet, so when it does alert I pay attention, and even then a false alert is easily recognizable low alert and lasts very short, just a few secs, and of coarse the real stuff is easy to recognize.

I am sill consider the V1, jast as some one else suggested, just for highway travel as traveling at that speed, you need every second of reaction time, but laser falsing is liable to get me into an accident!!! I dont need a false laser on the highway, especially not on south Florida roads, holy crap that would be very bad!

So still contiplating, I think I am trying to stretch it out for another year to see if any new products appear, the NEW Brand X that is comeing out isa good possibility, see if there is anything for Escort since it is the same company I would assume such, besides, more money for them... its UPGRADE TIME folks.

Now thats a question, when Escorts explain to its customers it true upgrade policy, even having just purcahsed the new X50, would an Escort customer purchase the same brand after being screwed so fast, I have to admit I was sort of leaning to purchase an X50 but with new stuff being released, makes me want to hang back and wait it out more!

Then...what do you do when you get a real laser alert? Does that get you into an accident too? All you need to do when you get a laser alert is slow down quickly but in a controlled way. Slamming on the brakes is not only dangerous but it will draw more attention from law enforcement. Just don't do that.

even though slamming on your brakes does draw attention to yourself, it might also save your a.ss. that hapenned to my friend. he was going 135 mph and he slammed on his brakes after his RD went off and the officer said he clocked him going 80 mph.

the same thing hapenned to me. only i was going 45 mph in a 20 mph zone and right as i was going around the corner my RD screamed and i slammed on my brakes and was able to slow down to about 22 mph and the cop definately saw me slam on my brakes cuz when i went by him he smurked/smiled/chuckle at me while shaking his head, but he couldnt do s.hit to me.

soo in conclusion, if your going to get fuc.ked and you know it, you might as well slam on your brakes and draw attention to yourself while saving your a.ss.
