I should buy another one. I would say it was a year ago? when I last used the gpsrd. I cant remember where i put it.

I would turn it off and back on again same day. I would go by the same false area and it would start over again. But if you kept it on it worked fine. Im not totally sure. I would have to buy one and test it out.

If you have a link to buy them for $129 tell me. I will buy one and check it out again.

The E911 system can be disabled in your phone. I, for example, use a Nokia 3586i with E911. It only transmits your GPS location when you're in a 911 call with my current settings. The phone can be manually set to transmit location at all times, but it defaults to 911 calls only. Outside of E911, you *could* be "tracked" by triangulation between towers on a CDMA phone, but that wouldn't be very precise at all.

No, that is not true. That may be what they want you to think. (I have read the manuals as well) The E911 lat/lon can NOT be disabled and the same GPS technology that is used to "triangulate" your phone on a 911 call IS from the tower's (base station equipment) GPS. I have to test it all the time. I work for a MAJOR phone carrier and have done every type of test there is. I set the GPS delay and verify it's within 1.5 uS. It's my job to maintain it and fix it FAST when it breaks. There is NO GPS RECEIVER in my phone, and they know EXACTLY where I am even when I "turn off" the "GPS feature". The GPS is at the cell sites.

CDMA uses precise timing to deliver your data (chips). CDMA can be in a 3 - 6 way soft handoff (different tower sectors OR even multi-path reflections) with the handset (RAKE receivers). Since the system uses the same frequency on all of the towers in the network, the data has to be picked up in the domain at the exact time it is sequenced. It's called "return trip delay" and as you move closer/further from the tower, the timing adjusts to keep you in sync. The timing is crucial, so military grade GPS is used. It needs to be within 9 uS or it becomes interference as it falls into a different PN code. All usable PN codes need to be in the neighbor lists at all of the sites. If the timing drifts on a site (loses GPS sync and is in freerun holdover), the FER goes up as the data breaks up due to dropped bits out of sequence. It's called an island site. (it really becomes a different PN code that is not recognized) This stuff is VERY accurate. I have verified it in every county that has gone Phase 2. Trust me ... They KNOW where you are. :wink:

Now if the county is not E911 Phase 2, the only information they get is what tower sector (face) you are on. BUT THE SYSTEM STIL KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE. Remember, the gov has a back door into the system. As for 911 centers, E911 is mandated, so it has to be everywhere and soon!

As far as I can tell, this is a legit dealer. I called the non-800 number and it was changed to a Texas number. I got an answering machine saying they were Lee Electronics (moving from PA to TX ???). I will try the 800 number tomorrow.

I think this would be fun to play with. I could keep it on as I drive the company truck almost every day. I have a feeling the reason we won't see one from Belscort anytime soon is due to patents. Too bad! Belscort is slow to advance. They should have come out with this first!

BGTech (the company that makes Cobra and Radio Shack) has been working on a device like this. I had asked Bel/Escort awhile back and there didn't seem any interest then.

Well I might be wrong its been awhile. It might store it I dont know. Well if roy says uniden isnt making RD's. That means the patents are probably elapse.

I am glad someone posted up some pictures of the Snooper products.
Its a real old GPS system now and the RADAR detector add ons are terrible,They leak water and are very unreliable,The GPS receiver reception is poor as well.
These systems are not user programmable so you can't add new features or store your own GPS locations etc.
Why do you think they are not on sale in the US?
The heart of a GPS system is the GPS receiver so if you can't aquire satellite lock quickly and stay locked then the product is useless.
Again it sounds like people have toyed with a technology they do not really understand as having a Radar detector hooked upto a GPS system would mean almost no false alerts. :D

Roy - Thanks for the info. We will have to see what develops. I wonder why Belscort is dragging their feet. Maybe they are just being quiet about development, but I sure wish they were the company working on this idea. I'm going to e-mail them about it. Please keep us posted!

I called "that company" advertising the refurb GPSRDs and they are not selling any more. The internet site they used at Yahoo is old and out of date. They should get rid of it! So no new toy for me! :cry:
