I am wanting to hardwire just 1 wire if possible for 2 detectors. Does the valentine one use the same power wire as the escort 8500?

yes they both use the phone jack as the power cord

I use my V1 hardwire to run both my 9500ix and my V1. If you try to use the Escort Smartcord to run the V1, it will work, but I believe you lose the ability to program your V1 or mute it.
