Need some help deciding on RD.

I hate to make a new thread, but I'm looking at buying a RD in the next day or two and need some help. I made a call to one of the companies known to this site, but I guess I was looking for a little more input to help me make a choice. Maybe they can't recommend one over the other.. That's ok.

I'm kind of looking at the Bel line. In you guys opinions, is it worth the extra $70 to buy the 995 over the 955 or 965? I really don't want to go over 300.00 if possible. I mainly do city driving, but do drive on rural roads, and the interstate some.

I've read the test on Guys of LIDAR from 07, where both the 955 and 965 held its own and even exceeded the 995 in some test. Do these numbers still hold true today?

I'm looking for a second detector, but not sure what to buy. I just bought the Pro 78se and should receive it in a day or two. I guess, I'm down to the 995, 965, 955, and possibly the Escort 8500 x50, if I send one of my old passport 4500 in as a trade.

Any suggestions/recommendations of the products above, or others RD's not mentioned would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. .

Those results definitely still hold true, the vector series all use the same platform. the only real difference is features. i'd go for the v955, because the v965 is the SAME EXACT RD with a markup for a traveling case.

or look at the passport 8500 refurbs from Escort on ebay. thats probably your best bet to be honest.

any reason you went the with pro-78se?

Fwiw. I believe I can buy the 965 for the same price as the 955. $159.00 free shipping. The 995 is $229.00.

I originally had the 695 for a week while on vacation, and it did a good job from what I could tell, but it was too dim, plus I paid more for it at Walmart that what I could get a detector on line. It was a spur of the moment thing.

A day or so ago. I read some positive reviews on the 690se, and the Pro 78se from Veil guy. So I just decided to go with the 78se mainly because of the KA Max, and the blue LED. This was before finding this forum though. Now I read some people don't like it, and some say they love it.

I'm now looking for a second detector. I may put the 78se in my wife's car.

If I go with a refurbished. It is worth it to just buy the X50 for 50.00 more?

The 995 or the 8500 refurb will both serve you well. The 995 has tech mode which allows you to see the frequency of the radar that you are encountering. For some users (including me) this is a very useful feature because it can help you differentiate falses from real threats especially on Ka. Many users like the older S7 platforms on Belscorts over the newer M4s because they have an edge on detection (although they are less reliable). However from the testing I've seen the 995 will perform pretty close to a 8500 on K and Ka. In fact its 35.5 GHz Ka detection could exceed it.

Yeah, the 695, I had for a week allowed you to see the frequency. It was pretty helpful from what I could tell. So you would opt for the 995 for 80.00 more over the regular 8500?

Yes. But that's just me. M4s are more reliable (995). S7s perform better (8500).

I just read the rave reviews from happya$$ about the 8500 in the "8500 Refurbs" thread. Seems like he likes it better than the X50, and for 149 you can't beat the price..

I don't know I may just go ahead and try it. I can always buy the 995 if I need a backup, or if I don't like the Pro78se. I'm hoping I'll like it though.

Before I place an order, what's your opinion on the X50 for 50.00 more? Is it worth it in your opinion, or should I just go with the original 8500 refurb and be done with it? LOL
