    Default Installed detector questions

    Radar fans,

I'm gathering ideas on my next detector... I'm thinking maybe it'll be an installed one or semi-installed in my case.

I'm thinking an sti-r + but with the antenna mounted on my windshield for best range, and portability if necessary.

    So my questions involve wiring:

I haven't found any detailed installation photos of an installed unit. Is there a link?

Is the powering for the installed unit the same as installing a hardwired windshield unit?

I found a video and it showed two wires for power on a ci (I'm assuming it's similar to the sti-r)... One's red (12v?) and the other's yellow.

    Where do these go?

How can they be wired to cigarette lighter? What's the adapter part and how does it work?

Thanks for reading! I'm just gathering ideas on a new project...

My first question would be is why are you adding the extra expense of using a remote mounted radar detector on your dash??
If you're looking for installation videos on remote mounted units check out my site http://www.radardetector.orgvideos there are a couple there
You will be getting power from the fuseblock inside you car, or at least that is what I recommend
The red is 12+ correct, there should be another one that is black, that is ground

    STI R install - 08 Honda Civic

I doubt the remote M3s even come with a 'power plug'; hardwiring is part of their 'installed' discretion

I'm also certain that a wiring diagram is part of the package and everything will be explained or demonstrated
