    Default Uniden 520XL CB's

I have seen a couple of people with 520's. I have one as well and had a question. I have "peaked and tuned" the radio, when idle I am only having 2 signal bars. What do you guys have?

Is it possible to have for when IDLE. I know recieveing and the signal strength depends on how well you are getting it etc. When Tx I get 4 bars. What about IDLE.

    Thanks

I'm using a handheld Midland 75-820 and in idle the bar meter (or whatever you call that little display) just bounces back and forth until you get somebody talking on the channel you're on (19 for most of us), the stronger the Rx signal, more bars you get on the display... and when you Tx you should get maximum of the bars...

I don't know about your CB but mine has got lots of bars, I think maximum is maybe 20 or even more, in any case 2 is nothing, maybe work a little on the SQL knob, adjust it a little, or maybe after your CB has been tuned it's more powerful than before... the bottom line, if you get clear signal of any transmission, and from a long distance, you shouldn't be concern about that little issue at all... safe driving

I've been looking at the 520XL, but apparently the "newer" ones (they never say how recent the change was) can't be peaked like the older ones could --- they can't even source the parts to mod the newer ones. I'm just wondering if the place that peaked and tuned it for you even did anything. Did they tell you how many watts RF it is doing now?

    Your CB is behaving normally.
The signal meter showing "bars" when "idling" is normal, especially in urban areas. Basically, your CB is picking up all the background noise on that frequency, hence you turn up the squelch until you hear nothing. You'll find that at night, and in rural areas, you're background noise may not be as high.
