Default Anyone with a lidar gun willing to do this test?

Would anyone with a lidar gun be willing to do a test that I thought of?

I was wondering if you could get a reading on a whip type antenna. Such as a CB, Scanner, Radio Antenna.

The test would be for someone to make the antenna wobble and see if this could produce a speed/distance on a lidar gun.

I believe this could be very crucial if a speed/distance could be obtained and the vehicle is going slower than the antenna is wobbling.

Now really possible considering how thin the antenna's are.

Well, I dont know. Surf Daddy was getting wild errors just from shooting trees, signs, and the road.

I'd like someone to pull back an antenna and let it fling through the air and see if a lidar gun could pick it up.

What would the odds be of a car that was actually going slower than its wobbling antenna though? "Son. Do you know how fast you were going?" "I think I was going 35, but you may have caught my antenna going well over 70."

It would be interesting to catch it going 12mph though.

Well you have the speed of car + wind speed.

    Default St. Louis

Well, if I get a chance to do some testing w/ some on here, I will shoot my Wilson 1000 if I can see it. Tough chance but very valid St. Louis X50.

in the event, if ur going that slow u don't need to worry about a speeding ticket i guess

Well i had a few spare minutes, so i decided to try this for you.

my initial thought was/is "no way" too small of a target, plus other things that wouldn't be feasible.

gave it the old college try, but not gonna happen.

anyway, not a possibility for several reasons.

I did a stationary shot from about 50' and it wouldn't read my black antenna. i did a silver antenna at 50' and it gave a distance reading.
i also shot the car, and surrounding area to confirm antenna reading.

i could also shoot the antenna at 100' stationary. after that, forget it, besides being almost impossible to see the antenna when it's not moving, the lidar beam grows, so will be more than likely picking up the pillar of the vehicle, since depending on the angle will be behind the antenna.

i used an angle that had no vehicle behind the antenna.

anyway, at 50' and 100' distance, it was occasionally possible for me to get a distance reading, but no speed when flexed or moving. (0) Usually i would get an E-02 or E-03, or sometimes the distance far way behind.

when the vehicle was even driving close, but away, the antenna wobbled so much, no shot was possible.

having the vehicle stationary, and having the antenna "flexed and let go", no speed reading was obtained.

i even went as far as to have someone shake it as quick as possible back and forth, but no speed, and even harder to get a distance reading.

bottom line, the antenna is too small and "wobbly" to cause any effect, especially at any distance a vehicle would be clocked at.

    Good, Thanks for the test!

It's too bad it wouldnt get a reading in a way and good in other that it wouldnt.
