Radio Shack Rumor?

Stopped at RS today to get a cable to update my Pro 96. The RS employee told me RS has a new president or something who is phasing out items that don't sell, including scanners and scanner related items. I asked him if it was just for his store or for all RS stores. He said it's for all RS stores. Has anyone else herad this or was this guy talking BS?

BTW, They had NO scanners and NO cable to update them anywhere in the store.

That's probably just your radio shack, if anything.

I was at radio shack saturday and they had their scanners on display.

I doubt RADIO shack will get rid of their radios.

I think that guy at your store was bs you.all my local radioshack's have them instock.radio scanners are a big sale for them so i dont think they are going any where for a long time.

Until I got my present scanner, I considered buying one from RS until they told me they didnt have the programming cable. The cable is a separate purchase. That did it for me. No sale.

FYI, the Radio Shack website is "out of stock" on both the Pro-96 AND the programming cable. So I guess I'm SOL for now on the upgrade thing. Maybe the sales guy wasn't kidding about RS phasing out some of its slow moving items? Seems hard to believe, but nothing suprises me anymore.

I almost never buy radio shack branded stuff. If you want a radio, why not get a Uniden? Radio shack radios are just re-branded uniden radios anyway.

I wouldn't doubt it.

I worked for a rat shack franchise store about 3 years ago. It was all going to **** then. They've gotten rid of so much of the shat you'd go to radio shack for its sad. The day they told us they were going to have no more big catalogs I gave up on them. Remember the days of the radio shack unlimited? I'd look at those catalogs for WEEKS while doing "business".

They're becoming another but more GROSSLY overpriced electronics store.

Not to mention a tiny one. How can they beat something like Best Buy?

Who on earth would drive to Radio shack to get a TV or computer?

Ask him to find a store near you with the cable,,,I due on the RS in my town doesn't carry many sacnner parts because they aren't popular but they sent me to an RS with a huige scanner collection
