    Default Adding Cb to Arsenal

I'm thinking of getting a rather cheap set up for road trips .. something like a
    510xl + Little Wil

I don't want to drill any holes to run the wire i was thinking about being ghetto about it and running the coax through the sun roof, after all it will only be for certain trips

question : is this set up good enough to use as a counter measure?
    2) how big is the risk of scratching with a mag mount?
    3) is there any where i can buy a "package" from that will ship me both the cb and antenna tuned?

    1. Very effective setup.
    2. As long as you tilt the mag mount, the scratching will be very minimal. I can't say none at all, because there will be dirt between the base and roof (unless you clean it with windex everytime, but still), but nothing that some buffing compound, cotton towel, and some elbow grease couldn't take out. This coming from someone that has it on 24-7. Most likely zilch as you won't have it up all the time. Just tilt it!
    3. I personally couldn't find any combos, but now that you mention it... *buys 100 Lil Wil's , 50 Cobra CB's, 25 510's and 25 520's.*

The coax should be okay through the sun roof. The only thing that could happen is a tapping noise. If I don't keep the coax very taunt between the base and the door jamb, the air flow tends to make the extra cable harmonically 'bounce' up and down, making a tapping noise.

    x2,

As for the tuned part: The radio can be peaked and tuned at the factory. But to tune your SWR numbers on your set-up (which you should do before using it [for TX at least])... this must be done on the car. You can buy an SWR meter, lower-to-mid end ones cost 10-50bucks, or a local CB might do it for cheap, especially if you buy stuff from them.

also how do i "tilt" the mag mount? can you move it off center etc? or do i have to put it back towards my rear window so it leans back?

When taking a CB antenna off... (mag mount) instead of trying to pull straight up (which almost always results in it sliding across the trunk/roof before it comes off... hence scratching it).

Take the antenna (mount whip and all) and tilt it up on one-side well one side stays in place (sort of like you would with a 'dolly' for heavy lifting... that motion)... then once you pull up one side... lift straight up. (Basically you are breaking the magnetic bond before you try pulling it off.)

At just after 30seconds, you see how he tips the antenna on the box?

Imagine that box is a solid car roof, that is how you tilt the antenna to break the magnetic bond... to the side like that. (Obviously the box tilts too, but on your car, the far side will 'pop' off the roof)...

Sorry... I can't help you there, but I figured the visual would help a bit.
