Congrats on getting it. I don't really like plugging it to the cig lighter because you usually get motor noise from it.

is there another way to hook it up w/o making it a permanent mount?

    I'm afraid not.

You will have to do what I did. Get some sort of connector from RS/etc. and hard wire/splice the female/male connector to the vehicles 12V, and put the opposite sex connector on the radio.

I used the molex connectors (just like those on a computer power supply's). It can be seen in my video. I believe I annotated it.

Then when I want the radio gone, I just unplug the radio from the molex connector and tuck the other hardwired end into under the console.

Are you planning on moving it from one vehicle to another? If not just hardwire it. If you are I would do as suggested. Go to whatever electronics shop you have available. Buy a proper connector that will run hot and ground and run that hardwired. Then just plug it in to that. You might try the lighter and see what happens, just been my experience that you will get motor noise. You will get tired of moving it anyway and end up buying another one later. Just do it the first time and get it over with.

Just run a hardwire with the hardwire end as a female (blade) connector end of your choice.

This can often provide for quick and easy connect/disconnect of various applications.

    Make sure everything is fused.

I like the molex plug connector idea, I think I will do that

so it was night time and raining so i barely used the cb but i did test it out..I really want to hear channel 19 right?
I didn't pick much of anything on 19 but I picked up some funny conversations on 17 and 18

I defiantly need to peak/tune and I don't get engine noise using the cig lighter but I can hear my windshield wipers

In this area Ch. 17 is the truckers channel.

Channel 19 is the 'unofficial' official truckers channel, but in different regions of the US, (especially where the drivers know each other very well) they will stay on 17, and talk amongst themselves.

In other words: CH 19 is the default settings, every kind of trucker from every company etc will be on here listening to this channel as the 'truckers channel', now in certain pockets of the country you will have truckers who know each other in the area, and they will run 17... there are 2 reasons for this:

    1) As I said: they most likely know each other and are more apt to have a casual atmosphere where they can 'chit-chat' about anything, without annoying the other truckers... or covering up another trucker who needs something. They also know they will be more likely to trust people on here (though people on 19 very rarely lead you astray).

    2) The channel will be much less cluttered with stray signals for the most part... it may be busier sometimes, but everyone knows everyone, so its a plus since they can have a 'relay' system in this effect.

Furthermore... it is true (but very rare) that in some-places 17 is the truckers channel, but as I noted that is normally not the case.

    Around here...
4,6(SuperBowl),11,14,17,19,21,30,40 Seem to be the most popular channels.

makes sense, guys on 17 were defiantly truckers, and they seemed to know each other..poking jokes ..etc
on 18 there was just 2 guys talking about guitar's ..at one point one started playing

btw what kind of range can i expect from my set up?
