Default Wilson Little Wil magnet at speed

There has been talk on the forum on the fastest speeds for magnet mounted CB antennas, and I'm wondering how weak do they get as the years pass by? (e.g. 2 years)

Should anyone worry about a Little Wil mounted on the roof getting blown off at 110 - 115 MPH?

I highly doubt your Little Wil is going to come off, not unless something hits it, but to tell you the truth, your Little Wil doesn't compare to the Wilson 1000. I bought a Little Wil not too long ago, and I just traded up to a Wilson 1000. I had several CB entusiasts tell me that I needed a Wilson 1000. I don't care if you run a linear that is 300w with your CB. If you use your Little Wil, you are not allowing yourself to be heard or receive. Think of it like this...if your Little Wil gets you out there 5 miles, your Wilson 1000 will get you out there 3 times that amount (at least half), 10 miles or so. The ANTENNA is the most important component of your radio! Right now I'm running a Cobra 29 WX NW ST w/ my Wilson 1000. Upgrading my CB though soon. Thanks to my V1, I'm in a countermeasure craze. The CB is almost like entertainment when listening to drivers. There's no listening though with a Little Wil. I didn't know what Skip was until last Saturday, when CBr's where talking "worldwide". That is just totally amazing to me. I never knew it existed, but I learn something every day. Bring on the sunspots - we are only in the beggining of the solar cycle, which is predicted to peak in 2013 or so.

Your antenna will not fall off untill you hit higher speeds.

I have the same radio except my antenna is made be Firestik.
I can transmit over 15 miles and receive about the same (no amp but it was tweaked).
    Why are you trading radios?

I amtrading radios because Cobra 29's are past news. Forget all the mods. I put a swing mod in it, and I had it peaked and tuned again because the first guy ripped me off. I am deadkeying 4 and swinging 28. Why waste my time though when I can get a real radio like a Stryker

I would assume because its a permanent magnet it should never loose its magnetism. I would be more concerned about it scratching the roof.

I believe erickonphoenix noticed his Little Wil started to fail at progressively lower speeds. 130 when he first got it, down to 110 before he stopped putting it up if he was going that fast.

IMO, if you're going that fast you can't just rely on the magnet. I'd put it on the trunk, and route the coax carefully so it would restrain the antenna if the magnet came loose. If you have a vehicle with a roof rack you could also rig up a nice ghetto zip tie solution to keep it in place.

Now that I think about it, I wouldn't trust just the magnet at any speed. I was only going about 45 when a huge bird ripped my magnet mount Wilson 1000 off the roof and put a beautiful dent in my trunk lid. You just never know...

Actually, magnets do lose their magnetism. They can be re-charged with varying success.

Scratching is more a function of the crap that gets between the magnet and the car finish, not the magnet itself. Keep some nice rags and spray detailer in your trunk to keep that clean, and you shouldn't see any real problems.
