Default Have 2 Cars, So Got a Midland 75-822.....

Wanted a portable CB....yeah I know everyone will say they suck.
My problem is I have 2 cars. One is a 01 Vette (fiberglass/plastic) and the other is a 93 full size blazer/tahoe.

I didnt want to mount one permanent in the vette for obvious reasons, and then I would have needed to buy 2 complete setups.

So I got the Midland 75-822 from ebay modified by Screwdriver.

What I need is an external antenna that will work for both vehicles, one is metal and one is not. Any suggestions?

Here are the mods done to the radio....on the invoice it says it is now 18 watts instead of 4.

The item for bid is a BRAND NEW, never been opened, Midland 75-822 CB radio. We are an authorized dealer of Midland radios and are offering this to you at a great price, then we add a moderate fee for the channel conversion, tune-up and alignment.
This radio will be removed from the box BRAND NEW and be modified for more channel reception. That's all normal channels PLUS 40 channels below and 40 channels above. After a frequency check/alignment the transmitter will be aligned for increased power and modulation. The Carrier is a full legal 4 Watts AM but now it will have a higher peak output power with loud audio.

***Alignments, mods and tuning will not be harmful to the radio. No levels will be higher than what the radio can handle.
    more channels
    Synthesizer alignment
    Receiver alignment
    Transmitter Alignment and BOOST
    Audio BOOST
(AMC adjusted for maximum audio without distortion)

No, magnet won't stick to fiberglass and won't provide a ground plane.

I don't have direct experience with fiberglass cars so I can't make exact recommendations, but I can at least rule that out.

It sounds like you'll need some sort of antenna that can work with no ground plane, and a different mount for each car.

So I will need two antenna.
One lil will magnetic base for the truck, and Ill have to do some research on the vette.

I just got done using it (with batteries and rubber ducky) on the top of our parking garage at work (5th floor). We are about 3/4 mile from I-10 in the middle of phoenix. Seemed to work great. Got a time check, gave directions etc. I could hear strong conversations for about 5 min before they would fade out. Of course they probably use amps.

Im sure it would be horrible if I were in the car at ground level. Ill find out on the way home.

Time to google vette cb antenna.

On the vette you will need a ground plane because of the fiberglass body.
It is an add on to the antenna. Here is a link where to get one.

I have a fiberglass trunk deck on my car so I had the same problem.

I have 2 setups for the same radio. 1 is a mag mount from Firestik with a 3' Firestik II antenna.

The other is a lip mount from Firestik with the a 3' Firefly antenna and the ground plane add on.
So the lip mount would not cut into the fiberglass under the trunk deck I added a piece of metal for it to clamp to and grounded that as well. The lip mount easily clamps on & off.
    Hope this helps.

    From the Firestik site.
    Antenna
    Model: FL3-B 3 Ft (92cm) 5/8 wave Rated @ 100 watts $17.99 (MSRP*)
    Lip Mount with wire
    Model MK-748R MSRP* $26.99

Ground Plane from CB City. (link from above)
    GPK-KIT Price: $18.95

If you noticed from the picture of my lip mount I took off the stock rubber bumps and
replaced them with suction cups. It held it in place better and did not scratch the paint.
