I flash my lights, but only if I feel I can do so without the officer seeing them. I use brights during the day and fog lights at night. If I got a ticket I would go to court and argue that I was indeed warning drivers. I would state that it had nothing to do with a LEO being ahead, but rather that a car was on the side of the road and looked like it was pulling out. I would probably get the ticket anyway, but I would go to court because I believe I'm in the right.

I don't really see a good way to use your lights as a communication device at night. It's illegal to flash your high beams and to drive without headlights, even for a second, right?

I have a friend who knows a girl who crashed her car because someone was being "helpful" and warning her of the speed trap ahead. She was a relatively new driver and panicked when she was blinded by the guy's high beams. She had a single vehicle run off the road crash and ended up in the hospital, so I don't really feel any sympathy for people flashing their high beams at night.

Now, about the CB, I wouldn't worry about that. I can't remember ever seeing a cop car with a CB antenna, and people give bear reports on it thousands of times a day without any issues that we've heard of. It's not the age of Smokey and the Bandit anymore when Buford T Justice would be listening to everything (and care enough to do anything about it). Also, you always have the option of just listening and never saying anything. That's pretty selfish and sometimes it reduces the information you get in return but it can work.

Some people just don't care, they drive carelessly. People speed pass me when im going +10 as it is, and I don't even see any RD on their windshield lol. How sad.
I actually witnessed someone get pulled over after passing me after I slowed down for C/O K-band that I had been picking up for at least a mile. I would never make an effort to warn people of a trap like that, only the real tricky ones...

This should have been a warning. Obviously the cop was pissed that the guy didn't qualify for a speeding ticket so he found a bs charge to stick him with. Totally gay and typical of a traffic cop.
    ^^^What he said. ^^

He could of said. Sir it was "flash to pass" or "flash to move over".

My O My how times have changed

I do remember a LEO (in tng) telling me that that technically this driving behavior (flashing lights) could be misconstrued as impersonating a Police Officer in pursuit. I heard this >20 yrs ago so may longer be accurate.

I got pulled for this once. Passed a cop on the side of the road, 1/4 mile later I see a car drive by. I decide to be nice and let them know, too bad it was another cop. Lol. Guy flagged me down and yelled at me saying how they're trying to keep the roads safe. He said if he sees me do it again he'll ticket me for illegal use of high beams. Now I will only flash if it is day time and I'm clear of the cop's vision.

    LOL. +1.

What happened to freedom of speech and flashing headlights to warn oncoming traffic of a police car ahead ??

I never flash at night...nobody is going to comprehend the intended message. During the day? Now that's a different story.

Did the ticket recipient let the LEO know he was being recorded

I read one article where I guy won a settlement because this kind of ticket is in violation of our freedom of speech. can't seem to find it right now.
