Default Help me with my setup please? Very limited time

I am leaving town in a few days for a cross-country drive.

So i purchased a Uniden 250xl and wilson 1000 magnamount yesterday.

Both were purchased used, both are in original condiiton tho.

I wanted to see, how can i/where can i optimize the uniden 250xl? I have heard you can upgrade it by reprogramming it.

    Thanks
    -Sam

Do you mean a Uniden 520 CB, or a Uniden 250 scanner?

If you are talking about a CB, you can't reprogram it. There is no programming of CB radios. But all of them can have their power output optimised with a little screwdriver turning. It takes someone who knows what they are doing though, which generally means finding a CB shop (not just a Radio Shack or electronics store) that does that sort of thing. It makes a difference, but not usually a very big difference in low-end radios like that one. The best thing you can do is just assure your antenna is placed optimally for best performance. After all, reception is a lot more important than power output.

If you're talking about a scanner, your first priority is to get a real antenna for it. A CB antenna won't work.

Unless you're using it to listen to CB traffic (better for CMs) then a CB antenna is the best thing for the job.

You need to check and tune the antenna for CB if it's a CB radio you're talking about though to make sure if you do key up you don't blow out the radio. You can get an SWR meter for under $20 or a CB shop will do it for you for about $5-10. Until then listen only don't talk.

Simply put turn the RF-Gain knob to max and then Turn the squech up till you stop hearing static.

    Tune your radio to Ch.19....

Talk to the other bullruners, like Team Royal with the R8 or some other teams that are running CB I am sure they'll give you some helpful hints
