I've got it plugged into the 12v socket of a car battery booster pack; not running or powered on AC, only 12vdc

2 things:
1. Don't trust an 8500 run off a 12v source. Use it in...
I'll call Escort Monday and send it back.
It appears they did not even power the unit up after doing the repair or they would have also discovered the problem. Their nice little card in the return...
Hey guys, haven't been on the forum for a while; I swing by every few months to read about the latest RDs on the market.
Anyway, I called Escort a few weeks ago and sent in my 8500 (purchased in...
The DSP felt very light; almost like it was hollow inside compared to other radar detectors of the same period. I remember it had that funky smart key that you had to insert into it after so many...
IMHO, one of the best alert audio and visual ramp up alerts in a rd was in the Escort DSP from 20 years ago.
I had one for a short time and it was excellent.
Anyone want to share their...
Be sure to keep your X band enabled when you come to NC. The state troopers still use their trusty K55 X band units in some of their cars. It's not that common, but have seen it a few times during...
What has changed with the remote mounted RD that has given them excellent performance over top of the line dash mounted RDs?
Years ago, it was always a compromise to have a remote mount anntenna...
I'm holding off my purchase but in all fairness, need to let Mike B check into this before anymore dogpiling onto Whistler.
There's too many variables that can affect the detection distance and...
Not possible, plus it goes to full alarm when this happens and no radar seen.
I bought this X50 new in April 05. It was sent in for repairs in 08.
This week I have have experienced a weird frequency display (34.111) along with a solid Ka band tone on 3 occasions.
...
Yeah, I was following this thread to see if I should follow through with the purchase of the 78se, but the page 9 lock stinks for some reason.
I'm cancelling my order; something doesn't smell...
Yeah, I also like the ramp up of the X50 as well. If Whistler could attain this type of audible ramp up tone, it would be an added plus to their already great line of RDs.
What got me to post...
I'm a long time Whitlser fan, having started with the XKRE-55 (?) in 1978, then Spectrum (1983), Spectrum 1 with Pulse (1989) and so one. I currently have the Pro78.
The area of audible alerts...
Wonder why the manufacturers have stayed with the same frequency for their Ka units? Couldn't they use any freq allocated to them in the Ka spectrum that is allocated for their use?
Wondering if the VG2 Cloaking and alert that Whistler used to include in its RD was considered effective?
Did anyone ever conduct tests to determine what ranges, radar guns, etc, it was effective...
I live in the Belmont/Mt Holly area; just north of Gastonia.
If you're traveling I85, be careful when you get anywhere near exits/mile markers 27-24 as there is a lot of speed enforcement in this...
OK, MEM-TEK; it's yours. It will make a nice addition to your RD museum and I'm sure you will give this oldie the TLC it needs in its old age...LOL
Ok, here's some pics. Sorry if they are not the greatest...
I took some pics of this oldie, but have to charge the camera batteries....:p
MEM-TEK, I sent you a pm
I would have to give it above average in appearance; has a few scratches/bumps on the edges, but does not appear to have fallen off the dash of an 18 wheeler...:D
I'll try to get a few pics taken...
There's no pic of the Vixen II. Maybe I'll just send it to those guys for their collection.
I was going through a junk drawer of mine and realized I also have a Super Fox Trucker RD.
I is basically the same as the Superfox Vixen II but is another 1/3 thicker and has a huge eye-ball...
I have an old Superfox Vixen II from 1984.
In it's day, it was considered one of the challengers to the Escort by ComGeneral Corp.
It has a manual/fixed squelch setting which allows you to set the...
Radar MD, welcome to the forum.
About Snooper; what was the history of them? Where where they located? What was last year/model they were in business? What caused their demise, etc.
Thanks,
