Yeah sure, like the Escort, Passport, V1 were... Right now, the Beltronics RX65, Escort Passport X50 and Valentine One are all about the "same". V1 does have slightly better performance, the rest have much better selectivity. Dead heat.
But, in the time of the Passport 7500 and earlier, the V1 was definately king by any standard...

Before that... well... they all sucked! :wink:
Perhaps there will once be a "clear-cut winner" soon. Perhaps the "Brand X". Today we are at a problem in RD development, since teh 55mi/h limit was repealed (demand is low), and there is only so good an RD can be... when we had detectors running off crystal radios, the switch to superheterodyne made the range far far more. Now microprocessor advances have helped keep the range slightly above pre-Ka levels, while dramatically decreasing false alarms and of course covering Ka.
If a clear cut winner meant that I could spend $XXX and never have to worry about a ticket again at any reasonable speed, that would be great and I'd be all for it. But since I believe that to be technically impossible I sorta hope that it doesn't happen. Competition is good, meaning that even if we have to buy new equipment every so often, protection continues to improve. If there were a clear cut winner, that comany could just sit on its hands and sell them and the level of protection would stay the same.
Besides, getting new toys once in a while is half the fun!!
Isnt there a detector from bel that is coming out in the next year that is like 1600$ ?
