    Exclamation V1 Lens Clouded (Help?!)

    Hey everyone... i FINALLY decided to buy a V1 and sell my 9500ix. I decided i liked the arrows more than the GPS due to mostly highway driving. So far, i haven't had many alerts. Anyways... i bought the unit USED and noticed that the lens for the forward facing radar antenna is scratched. not just one scratch but lots. The guy who sold it to me seems like a decent guy. he told me that it was sun damage. (See the attached pictures)

    Anyways, from the pictures, do you think this will affect performance and if it does, how much will it be to get it repaired? thanks everyone!

    P.S: I took pictures of both the forward facing lens (the scratched or sun damaged one) and the rear facing lens so you can compare and contrast.

    it really shouldnt affect performance;
    on a side note, did you call VR to see if the serial was clean?

    if its not stolen and it bothers you that much you could just ask how much it would be to replace that. im sure its not that much

    I would be more concerned about sun damage to the internal components. If it was left in the windshield enough to damage the lens it could haved cooked the insides. Have you tested the performance?

    What version is your V1? The diagnosis and repair cost $45 and if there is anything else wrong they will let you know! Make sure its got a good serial and then send it in for a tune up then no worries

    Don't see why it would hinder performance at all. There have been people mount them behind carpet and inside headrest. I would be more concerned with a used unit. How old is it?

    Shouldn't hurt performance on radar at all, laser I'm not so sure about. As I said mine is looking pretty beat up. My rear lens looks worse than yours but mine was before rear laser, my front lens is still in good shape though, and its half the reason I'm not sending mine it, just getting too rough looking. Mine still works fine otherwise. A simple road test or two should tell you, just be cautionary when you do it. I would imagine abrasion clouds the lens more than cooking in the sun would. I stash mine and it still ended up scratched up and I'm not even not careful with it, just time takes its toll.

    That's good info!

    Also I see live in Canada I would have a spare detector to give to the LEO's if they pick you up on the RDD

    haha, i live in a province that RD are legal. I dont have to worry about that.

    And btw everyone, im going to ship it in to get it checked out. I called and the serial is not hot so its all good. they said that the scratches or sun damage shouldn't affect it. Apparently the unit is 6 years old though and has had no checkups so its about time it gets sent in.
