    Default Concealed Display

I was planning on ordering a concealed display tonight and had a question.

How can you control which unit is lit up? if the concealed is hooked up is it automatically on and the V1 blacked out? is there a switch that you can turn one off and on?

    thanks

I'm a new V1 owner, but my understanding is that the when you use the remote display, the main unit lights are suppressed.

There isn't a switch, although I believe there was on early units a looong time ago.

The main V1 is blacked out when the remote display is plugged in. To make them come back on, you must unplug the remote display.

ok thanks thats what i thought, In the V1 Manual, page 25 it shows the hook up of the remote audio adapter, and it says that depending on how it is hooked up that it can control the concealed display on and off has any one used that?

This is by far my biggest issue with the consealed display. This should not blank out the V1 unless it is configured too... This has made me not use it at all. I just wanted the remote mute button close to me like the RX65 has.

But isn't that the whole concept behind the concealed display? To "CONCEAL" the main unit? Why would one want the main unit to light up if you are trying to conceal it?

Sorry for the ranting, but come on guys!

These units were designed this way for a reason, I am quite sure that everything was though out very carefully when they designed this detector.
A switch would just be another "High Fatality" item if it were to be added, and I feel it would serve no purpose. If you want the main unit lit up, then don't add the concealed display to defeat that purpose.

The Valentine-1 is purpose built, with auto dimming, They had designed this unit to be almost "Idiot Proof" with features designed so you cannot disable both the lights and sound together. I have seen people that run their detector in dark mode, with the volume down to the point of not hearing it, and then they ***** because they forgot about what they did and they got nailed by a LEO who is laughing because they just got someone with a lesser detector.

Here is an idea; get the virtual display and associated cable from the RD.net board member providing them, and use a laptop as your display, those are my plans, and I would like to figure a way to add V-1 alerts to my mapping log to show where I had encounters. Anyone seen that yet?

Ha, war driving for traffic enforcement. If your laptop had GPS that might work, there are a lot of programs for sniffing out wireless networks, and they mark down on a map where they all are as you find them while you drive. The best part is that once it's setup, it requires no user input. Maybe we could work up something like that for the V1. When it's at full strength on the meter, make a mark, and then make another mark right as it leaves full strength. Then shade the area in between.

I have 2 differnt gps units I can use, first is my old "Battle-Axe" garmin that is damn near bullet proof. then I picked up a tiny little reciever ( about the size of a Zippo) on a USB cord from microsoft that came with some mapping software, ( I hate the software, but the GPS is cool ) Maybe I could hack the V-1 virtual display programming (with permission from the owner, of course) and have it add a waypoint or proximity warning whenever the alert exceeds a preset value.

This information could be traded between PDA's or computers or even printed for a pre-warning as to falses or real threats can occur.

I think we might be on to something here, they have mapping for the gatso's in the UK, I hope it never comes to that here, But in AZ it already has!!!

Some people just want a audio mute button in close reach and do not care about the concealed display. My guess is because some people look at where sound is coming from. I still find myself sometimes looking at my V1 when it alerts as opposed to looking at the concealed display

Doesn't Valentine offer an audio adapter for that?

If I remember correctly, they do, It will not blank out the display but it will offer the audio controls at a remote location.

I think it is just shy of $50.00, and it has all the needed controls right there.

Am I correct on this? I think it is designed for earphone use on a bike, but it can be tweaked easily with its outputs.
