Default What does an 'E' message look like?

Have a 3.851 V1 and have read all of these reports about an 'E' message. (Had it only a month)

What does one look/sound like when it hits? Is it persistent until you shut off the detector?

I've had some sporadic signals that I can't ID exactly. They are so short that I don't get a good look at the detector before it stops. Out of the corner of my eye it looks like an upper case E and it has a European police siren sound (hi low repeating).

Maybe it is laser, but I would think Laser would last longer and I would be able to see the "L". I've only been hit by laser 2 or 3 times ever, so a laser hit would be unusual -- unless there are some of those laser cruise control vehicles around my 'hood.

Detector works great and the arrows are well worth the money. Can't believe I've had a detector of one kind or another for 20 years and didn't have arrows.

There is no audible tone for " E " which is something I have suggested to V1 that they implement.

Basically you will look up at the bogey counter and it will look like an " E ".

the alert for laser on the V1 is 3 horizontal bars in the bogey display and it does have the two-tone sound you have described.

So basically an E with the vertical upstroke part missing.

I suggest you either read your owners manual, and go to the VR website to learn what your detector is telling you. otherwise it is just a $400.00 noisemaker.

An actual "E" in the display means that it fialed the slef diagnostics (rare unitl 3.851, most likely caused by high temp. issue from ambient heat)

In my experence with my remote and laser, it should sound the tone and the three bars for a while, able to glance and see what it is. It shouldnt be so short you cant even see it.

Gee, thanks for the 'nice' response. I guess I'm an idiot because I didn't see the notation in the manual about what an 'E' message looks like. Care to point out where it talks about it in the manual (or on the website for that matter) -- I couldn't find a reference to it and I even used the 'search' function here to try to find an exact description before I posted.

With 20 yrs of detector use, I think I know how to use the things.

On your part, you might want to learn how to spell as well (before you cast stones make sure you don't have any errors in your post).

I dont believe the "E" is addressed either in the manual or on the website.

The only reason we know that the v1 displays an E is because people have had this happen and they have reported it to vr.

vr have told them what this means, a forum memeber also had a reply from mike valentine as to what the E means, its basicly indicates that the v1 isnt working properly and as mike v has said that its in need of a visit to their facilities to be checked out.

your right nowhere on the website or manual does it explain the E.

I think most of v1 users are v1 fanatics who now exactly what the v1 is ment to do.
