Malfunctioning V1????

Lately I'm becoming concerned about my V1 (3.818) I've owned for about 2 years. Every speed trap that I've encountered over the last several months, which amounts to about 4 or 5, (don't see too many in this part of PA) it hasn't alerted to. In each case I saw a trooper pointing the K-band handheld unit (Decatur Genesis or Kustom HR-12) in the general direction of traffic but my V1 stayed silent. At first, I assumed they were being selective but I'm beginning to doubt this has been the case EVERY time.

The confusing thing is that my V1 still falses on K-band at the normal spots where I regularly drive AND it did alert (.5 miles over a hill and around a curve) to a stationary Ka trap near Baltimore, MD about three weeks ago. Is this what happens when a V1 goes "out of tune?" I'm guessing it would be a good idea to send it back home for some maintenance, correct? TIA!!

Normally when the V1 goes out of tune on Ka it will start to go out on K, same with K, Ka will follow. (This is what I was told by the techs at VR... as mine has fallen out of tune on more then one occasion).


I must say its very odd that your V1 is still picking up the normal K false alerts in town... not to mention .5miles on Ka around a curve and over a hill isnt bad at all. Normally that (less K band falses in the city) is my first sign that something is wrong with my V1, then I notice K and Ka alerts seem sketchy.


Since your unit is 2 years old.... it may not be a bad idea just to send it back to VR for a check-up anyways, just tell them you think it may falling out of tune... but its very possible the LEO's were using very selective instant-on tactics.

I had a V1 that would eventually stop reporting a X band at a traffic light. When it was new it would report it, eventually, it stopped. When I bought a new one it reported the light again. Is that a detector going out of tune?

It's likely going out of tune. The narrowest bands would be affected first (X, then K). Ka is wider so it would be affected the least.

Seems like the 1.8 V1s need a tuneup every couple years or so. Thank goodness for excellent VR customer service.

Are you sure the gun you saw is not one of the new Lidar guns? Also, he could be using instant on as somebody pointed out. If you weren't speeding and he gaged your speed within limit he would have no reason to fire at you and alert traffic behind you.

I bought mine used and it still showed as a 1.8. I found that the only thing it would pick up was infrared/laser. It picked up NOTHING else. I sent it in and had it upgraded and repaired and now it shows everything.
