Default About Valentine....about to buy, question

    Hey,
I am about to buy the "Valentine", I have a question though and would like to hear some feedback.

I keep hearing people talking,to turn that on and turn that off and this and that on the Valentine, turn the pop off,on..ka on or off...its confusing.

My question is, can I not have everyhting turned on and just drive? lol

Cause I alwasy thought,at least from what I read, that the Valentine picks up very rarely fake aka false alarms.

I am just the type, that would buy this unit and have it ready to anything and everything at anytime...without playing with the unit to much, what to have on or off etc...

I mean isn't it smart to have this unit ready to anything at all times, unless the reason U guys must have a part turned off, because of the false alarms....but wasn't the Valentine excellent as far false alarm goes?

Hope someone can put a light on this...thank you

PS: another thing I have notice..

How come the Valentine is not available at any retail store...like best buy curcit city etc...on every single store I go,i see every single radar detector at the stores, just not the valentine? any reason????

Since you live in Ohio you should leave x band on (still in use there by the leos)

    Hello,

IMHO, For the first few weeks, I would just drive with it. Only thing I changed was use the different filters, A/ small L and large L.
    A: Highway
Little L: Small cities or known clusters of non-LEO signals.
Big L: Chicago land of malls and democraps

In my case, X band is still used around here so it is still on. POP is used nearby so it is on. (never been popped but want it on so when I do....)

Remember it has 2 horns (aka antennas), so you'll get more non-LEO alerts since after going by one, the V1 will still see it by the back pointed horn.
(what some call 'Falses' are real radar signals that are not LEO generated.)

    Take care,

    Spin

    1) Yes, you can have everything on and just drive. Built in are three 'modes' A, L, l (it is 'little l', looks sort of like they took a cap L and cut off it's legs) to help suit your needs. In the beginning, I drove with A on just to get a feel. Now, for every-day driving I drive in L and rarely change unless going on a long trips.

2)Ready for the politician in me: The V1 is good at not alerting to non-radar sources. However, there is a lot of radar sources that are not run by police. For example, a V1 can not determine if radar blasting K band is coming from a police officer behind a tree, or from the strip-mall with automatic doors. This is where the user comes in handy. I know every little beep that my V1 will make on routine trips. Any non-routine trips I have to assume the presence of an officer until it is proven otherwise, and boy do those arrows help.

3)As an example (keep in mind I'm making these numbers up): The small pox vaccine kills 1:100,000 due to allergic reactions. There has not been small pox in the western world in 75 years. If you are still vaccinating for it, you are not protecting anyone, you are killing people.

Now it's not really that extreme. Just more of a minor annoyance. If you are in an area that hasn't used x-band since the 80's, and you get an x-band alert, you are not faced with the threat of a leo, rather the threat of soccer-moms and minivans.

I don't mind giving my little V1 an occasional check once in a while, and with L mode, I don't get annoyed with an occasional non-leo beep.

4)I have no idea why Mr. V1 does not wish his products in stores, but he doesn't. V1 has expanded top-down very effectively.

    ^ I'd qualify this somewhat.

I would leave X enabled only if your locals are known to use X-band, or, alternatively, if you frequently travel highways where the Ohio Highway Patrol are known to enforce (in the latter case, you can enable X once you've entered said highway, provided that you religiously observe this practice).

In my area, for my normal commute (exclusively surface streets, dense urban or suburban settings), I would actively try to suppress X-band "falses."
