Valentine V1.8 Rev3.825 has the new city mode

I have used an X50 for almost a year and now I have a V1 to test drive. Most people on this board have only tried one of these detectors, so I thought I'd give my opinion on the subject since I've tried out both of them.

When I had my X50 I was sick and tired of the POP falses. The detection range was outstanding(saved me more then a handful of times) and the unit didn't false that much. I must admitt I bashed the V1 a little bit because I used a 3.824 in the past and it falsed much more then the X50.

I bought a 3.825 brand new from VR and I must say it's my favorite radar detector now. This rev. number falses almost LESS then the X50. I don't have to turn the POP off like the X50 and the arrows are really cool.

I think VR fixed the K band falsing problem and I haven't had one KA false yet. My detector is in advanced logic mode with X band turned off.

I'm not sure Crazy about the automute, but I'd get a jammer instead of the V1 as well. The 995 is a great detector.

You know I heard the same thing from another credible source. It is time for me to send my unit in for a 3.825 firmware upgrade or maybe Ebay mine and buy anew one :twisted:

It's a shame VR won't admit it they fixed the issue.

I updated from a pre-POP firmware which didn't really false a lot and I moved up to the latest firmware. I have been pretty happy with it so far. I kept reading all the reports of the falsing driving people nuts with the V1, but so far I haven't really seen a problem with this version. The latest version appears to be a big improvement over the version I was using before. So far I am very happy with it.

Hi guys, this is my first post, I am new on your forum, but I have been reading you for a while now, so far this is the most complete forum for radar detectors and technology about them I have seen.CONGRATS FOR THE FORUM.

After reading you guys for a while, I decided to buy the Valentine 1 instead of the x50 or bell, because I have to drive 30 min. of highway across town every day to go to work, and I also like to travel during the weekends.
And I read in several posts that the laser and range of the V1 are better suited for those areas.
I am not sure what V1 I have, it is my first detector, now I am using it in logic mode, I have been shot with instant Ka twice I believe, and laser 3 times so far, or at least that is what it looks like, I'm happy with the detector.

I got the radar a little over a week ago, I should have the latest revision right?

do you know if here in central florida, they use x band and k band or only Ka and Laser?

if they don't use x band(which makes the radar jump in every store or gas station I pass by) how do I disconnect the x band?

I located the radar just under my rear view mirror, would it be better if I put it next to it instead of under it?

do you have any other reccomendation for a newbie on this radar?

Thanks for all the help guys, I got the radar because I own a mustang and a White one!, and I'm favorite target for local cops usually, even if I am going 30 on a 45 area.

Patan, PM edweird to see if they use X band in FL as he lives there, other wise leave everything on if you are new to radar detectors.
Mounting high is fine as most feel it gives you an earlier warning but some of us feel it takes your eyes off the road resulting in a safety issue so go with your gut instinct on where you want it.

Back to the topic:
Sounds like they made section 7 automute enabled or turned on as a factory setting.
The reprogramming chart does not show this but we all know how slow VR can be at updating this chart.
If they did this I don't like it, as you should be able to choose this setting yourself.
Sure you would be able to have a first alert or no screening on A mode but the disadvantage is if you want to screen X band by using a logic mode but have a first alert or no screening on K band you would not be able to do so.
It's funny how some members have been against screening or automuting K band this whole time as a fear of running into an instant on speed trap and now they are all for being stuck with it. Right Sethy?
On my next vacation trip I will have to try another current production unit out.

has anyone tried it?
