    Default pulled over... no beeps...

Yesterday I was driving over the JFK bridge (joins the island to the city of Corpus) and a cop was right behind me. I was trying to keep it at 65 because I thought that was the speed limit. Well its actually 55 on the bridge, 65 before and after. So he caught me and pulled me over. He was really looking for alcohol and to see if I had been drinking so he let me off with a warning. Now I know, it was stupid on my part to be speeding even when I thought I was going the psl. I should have been going under but I've been pulled over for that too, so....

My question is: how did he clock me (he said I was going 66, and I was) and I not even get a beep during the whole ordeal?

He paced you. He matched his vehicle's speed with yours for enough time to determine your speed.

he was only behind me for a few seconds before he lit up. he can do it that accurately? cuz i was really going 66, just like he said.

also, did he give me a warning because he used this method and its not likely to hold up in court? or was he just being nice? cuz he did know about my speeding history (before I got the v1, of course).

For years here in Cali, the CHP never used radar or lidar, only pacing. IT ALWAYS HELD UP IN COURT, TRUST ME! It doesn't take very long for them to accurately guage your speed. As you can see, he got yours perfectly. I think you said earlier that he probably thought you were drinking, so he probably used your slight speeding as an excuse pull you over, found you to be sober, and let you go since you weren't drunk or blatantly speeding. Most LEO's won't write tickets for minor speeding, but it does happen.

Pacing is a hard ticket to beat too (in California at least). CHP here still commonly use the technique.

They have a lot of techniques to get you. Took me a little while but I caught on to enough of them to avoid a ticket for a long time. Haven't had a speeding ticket since I don't know when and I intend to keep it that way. At least 1990 and probably longer. Now that they have started using radar and lidar I thought I should stay ahead of the game and get the V1, which I've wanted for a loooong time.
