    Default Odd Ka encounter...

Passing a Trooper writing up an abandoned vehicle on a local road I had an odd "hit" tonight.

As I'm about 2ft behind laterally matching the squad car I get about a 4bar blast of Ka to the rear. No warning to the front, no ramp up ramp down. Officer had her head buried in paperwork, so I know it wasn't I/O (meant for someone else). I also think it would rule out the Spectre possiblity, and I doubt a trooper would run a Cobra RD. Would a 800Mhz radio cause RF interference on Ka band? V1 ghosting? Out of tune? Other causes?

Motor On: I tested a Decatur K band moving radar unit at close range to a 9500ix before. Out of a total of 5 IO bursts, one of them did produce some Ka band leakage. I didn't have my V1 with me at the time, but it is highly likely that the leakage would have also triggered a Ka band alert. This might shed some light on to your encounter.

Would it leak in standby? The Staties (CO) do use K band around here, but I was unable to get an identification on which Radar units they've got.

Most likely not. If you picked up bursts of K followed by a quick pulse of Ka (without any other vehicles nearby) then I would say possibly some leakage and then only at very close range.

What version V1 do you have? Sometimes, an out-of-tune V1 will miss a K band signal but will ghost on Ka at close range.
