    Default Quick Concealed Display Question

With a V1 concealed display, can you mute an alert using both the concealed display as well as the V1 itself, or does the V1 no longer do the mute function once a concealed display has been added to the equation?

    From the V1 site:
Mute and Mode selection are controlled by the Control Knob on the Display (On-Off and Volume adjustments remain on V1).
Based on the above quote, I'm inclined to believe that with a concealed display I'll have to use it to mute alerts. I'd rather reach up near my mirror to tap the button than to reach through or around my steering wheel to access the button on the concealed display inside the cowl of my instrument panel where I eventually intend to mount a concealed display.

Interesting question. Theoretically, you should be able to mute from the V1 itself when you hook up the concealed display. You can actually cycle through the program mode and make changes with the concealed display, so you should be able to if I'm right (I seldom mute alerts).

The mute button on the main unit still works with the CD hooked up. I also don't like reaching through the steering wheel. Just add a mute button within easy reach.

    Cool site, Fire.

Reaching through the steering wheel isn't really a problem on the highway, where I normally drive. In fact, I find it more convenient than reaching elsewhere around my cabin. But obviously, most alerts happen on surface roads -- not the highway -- where you are constantly making turns with the steering wheel, so this is a good question. I've never even tried to mute my V1 with the main unit while using the remote, so I sure didn't know!

Thanks for the confirmation, and thanks for the site!

If I install an additional mute button, I'll have to make sure it's where my wife can't reach it...

I wish they would have included a volume knob on the concealed unit, that would have been awesome.

Thanks for all the confirmation! I had assumed that you could mute using either button, but the language on the V1 site seemed to possibly suggest otherwise.

She doesn't get the same amount of satisfaction out of listening to an alert slowly ramp up that we do, although when she was doing about 90 and the LI jammed a GA state trooper, she changed her tune considerably when it comes to all these "silly toys" so now she has a little more interest and patience...
