I don't think I need the STi though because I rarely go to VA, and the sensitivity on the V1 really surprised me.

Get the V1 and avoid VA (I've driven AROUND the state a few times to spite the RD ban and the $3500 speeding ticket) or shut it off and tuck it away so it's out o sight out of mind for any LEO encounters.

Yeah, I am waiting for my paycheck, and then here comes a V1. Judging by the laser alerts on it, I will see if a laser jammer is needed.

The laser alert is just a post-warning that you've been shot. It is not CONSISTENTLY protective. Get an accompanying jammer ASAP if they use laser in your area. NO detector will save you from laser.

+1; you might not even get shot with laser if you don't appear to be speeding, so you wouldn't know you needed protection until too late.

Plan on getting a jammer when you can, but you're smart to get the best components you can instead of doing a half-ass job. Just be aware of the vulnerabilities of a detector only.

I am in the process of getting a ford explorer, and wanted to get stock nav. I could get it for about $2200 more. I decided to forget about the stock nav, after my new find mio gps hacking experience. In my eyes that leaves me with $2200 to spend on laser jammers, radar detectors and the works, but for some reason I am having a hard ass time finding a ford explorer on autotrader and craigslist.

Once I do though, expect some pictures of a V1, and laser interceptor. I want to get the V1, because I don't go on highways that often, however I did see a cop with a laser 1 month ago, sitting in the entrance of the subdivision. I knew it was a laser because it was on a tripod and looked like he was sniping me or something. Fortunately I was going PSL.

Now off to get a car, a V1, a LI, and some insurance !!!

From what I recall, I read that VA can confiscate them. All the advice I've seen says to unplug it and put it in the trunk.

VA does not confiscate them any longer, it's only a fine. I think they changed it a few years ago. When I used to go through VA with the V1 I would plug it into the center console and leave it on sitting on top of the console. If I got an alert or saw a LEO I turned it off and closed it up in the console.

Make sure you don't have driver's license, insurance info, registration in there though.

Cool. Then my standard "under-the-seat" treatment will work. If I ever go through there regularly, I'll have to get a concealed display. The v1 is easy to see, especially at night.
