Escort still makes fine detectors that compete with the V1 without using arrows and dual radar antenna's why would they spend money to develop another detector when their current ones are doing fine competing:confused:
Because arrows rock
Re: Arrows Patent: When will it expire?
Maybe the arrow patent has become a crutch for MV. Sort of resting on his accomplishments and making money at the same time. He has one of, if not the best dash/windshield mounted RD on the market, all the while using a design that has changed very little over 15 years.
The real test will be if V1 starts loosing market share to Belscort, does MV have enough in the tank to generate new innovative ideas?
Re: Arrows Patent: When will it expire?
I dont kow how the patent works but this might be a stupid idea but can V1 and BelEcort share the arrows patent

x2 I agree, if I was MV I would sell my patent to Belscort for a lot of money so Belscort has a head's up before cobra and other manufacturers. This would be a win-win for everyone. MV would stand to make an awful lot of cash for something that's about to expire in a few years, probably more then he will make in sales, which can only go on a downward spiral once the patent DOES expire. And belscort users would benefit from innovative RD design without sacrificing performance. My prediction if the patent runs out without Mike V selling it is cobra will come out with some CARD detector with arrows and make a ton of cash off old technology that gives cobra users an even greater false sense of security.

I hate to agree with Lucky225, but the arrows are sweet! :D

No one here knows for sure, but I think it's a good bet. Belscort seems to aiming to be the best and adding arrows would certainly seem to be part of that plan.

Valentine one makes the most sensitive dash mount detector.
I own both. Sensitivity isn't the end-all. I definitely prefer my 9500ix's over my V1.

I have my 9500ci and laser jammers in my everyday driver, which I drive maybe 70% of the time and I have my 9500ix's for when I drive another car. I put my 9500ci in the same catergory as my LIs, a necessary part of my everyday driver.

That's not really how it works. What incentive would VR have to share their patent with Belscort, since this patent is probably the main reason VR sells any RDs at all.

I bet the time to sell this patent has passed, since there is only two years left on it. He surely wouldn't get much for it at this point. Why would any company pay a ton of cash now for something they and everyone else is going to get free in two years?

x2. Even if MV were to sell it for a measly $1M, Belscort is not going to make that much in the 2 years left. Nevermind, the R&D costs they are going to have to go through right now, or 2 years from now. They would probably pass on an offer.

While I tend to see what you're saying, I think 2 years is more then enough time to push a detector out that will make tons of cash before a competitor gets the patent for free.
Re: Arrows Patent: When will it expire?
When the patent does expire the technology will have to get better. Valentine has a great unit but has placed it in a corner with the stance that he will always update from the 1st one built. Honorable .. Yes. Makes for loyal customers to a point. But that is why it still looks like its from the 80's.
Sometimes you have to redesign something to be more in step with the times. He can still sell and service the old ones but come out with a different model that has digital displays instead of the ugly led lights and arrows. If he doesnt step up and do that now he will be behind when others do it. He doesnt have to lose as much market share if he puts out a newer unit before the patent runs out.
V1 owners tell me this. If he came out with another model you would buy one of those as well wouldnt you? I would.

If current glitches do not disappear on a 1.9? No chance!
VR could do some simple improvements to the current model but appears to ignore recommendations.
Re: Arrows Patent: When will it expire?
Don't get hooked on the "Arrows" that is just an advertising gimmick basically have to do with the display is all. Any indicator will do. The main thing is having two..or more antenna in a single enclosure detecting radar direction. If the base patent is that specific it will indeed be hard to get an extension. I am sure mike is exploring every option he can trying to keep that base patent alive. It is very doubtful he can do it though given that he isn't as big into innovating his product as escort and Bell are.
