I am sure mike is exploring every option he can trying to keep that base patent alive. It is very doubtful he can do it though given that he isn't as big into innovating his product as escort and Bell are.
It's more then just front/back antenna, the detector has to measure the signal strength and other characteristics on each antenna to determine weather it's in front, back or to the side of you, and it has to do this QUICKLY.
Re: Arrows Patent: When will it expire?
Personally I believe the expiration of this patent will be excellent time. It will give others a shot at this concept at a more affordable price point and will make Mike V. look into innovating his products a whole lot more instead of just sitting on his lorrals forever and ever.

yes I know this obviously but that isn't actually what the base patent is about because this very same concept and technology has been used in other detectors with multiple enclosures and still is. They have also covered directional radar indication.
In fact i have one in my car right now made by the whistler company.
The patent is for multiple direction finding antenna IN A SINGLE ENCLOSURE.
Re: Arrows Patent: When will it expire?
There is very little point in having a front and rear antenna in separate enclosures without some kind of signal strength circuitry to tell you the direction of the signals. :D
Mike didn't invent this principle though. ;)

What model? And if this is the case why doesn't Escort incorporate 2 antennas in their remote models and simply tell you which direction based on which antenna picks it up? Since the remotes are not a "single enclosure".

I think that idea is patented by the unmentionable company.

What you don't believe me? :D It's the whistler 3300. Find the manual at the whistler site and look it up. The original company that developed this concept I can't mention.
Why doesn't escort do it? You got me! They certainly could. Maybe they don't want to go into the added expense and installation problems of adding a rear detector for the owners.

Like I said I believe this will be a good thing for mike and for us all.
Just to add this point mike could probably patents the arrows display ad infinitum..
Bet he has! :)
