Remote display in '02 Accord Coupe: finished install (pics)

I've finished the installation of my remote display! It would be a far stretch to call this "perfect" but I'm really happy with it. See for yourself:

I ended up doing it with a dremel tool (invauable!) epoxy paste, and a few bits of plastic.

Very nice! I like the little "visor" thing. Was that already in the dash or did you add it on? What was in that spot before, if anything?

That spot is where the little digital clock used to be. Here's how it looked before I touched anything:

I basically had to remove the guts of the clock, cut a big hole to fit the remote display which had been removed from is original housing, fix it in place, add the shroud, and finish it. I tried it first without the shroud but I couldn't read the display when the sun was on it. This is much better!

Well done! Where did you route the wires and how did you hook up the power? Did you use the hardwire adapter?

How long did it take you?

I have been procrastinating putting my remote display in for about a year and a half!

Reading the other thread, i didn't realize you had the remote audio. i may have to get one down the road if i decide to move my display somewhere less convenient to reach.

Again, great job, and i like the visor/shroud to keep out glare.!

Thanks guys! I'll fill in a few more details.

The wiring was easier than I expected. The hardwire adapter gets power from the fuse box next to the dash. So I have one wire to the main unit up the a-pillar and through the headliner, another wire under the dash and through the center console trim to the remote audio adapter which is velcroed by my leg, and then a wire from the remote audio adapter behind the dash up to the display. I was afraid that I would have to open up the dash to run that wire to the display but I just had to drop it down from above, no sweat. Using the remote audio adapter to control power to the main unit is possible if the wiring is switched around.

As for time, I think I started late last week and finished last night. Most of the effort was put into cutting, fitting, filling, more cutting, and finally painting. We're probably talking 7-10 hours, maybe? I only had one shot at it so I was working really slow.

I have it high on the windshield so that the front antenna peeks out just below the tint strip and the rear antenna can see around the rear view mirror. The control knob and display are blocked because they are right up against the mirror, hence the need for the remote display and audio adapter. I was concerned that the arrows would get confused by reflections off of the mirror and into the rear antenna (happened with my last car) but it works flawlessly this way. The mirror is so close to the V1 that signals can't really make the turn.

now you got me thinking. now i'm looking around for even better locations for the concealed display, since i can go with the remote adapter, which i can put anywhere for power and mute.
like i don't have enough projects.

Seriously, it sounds like you've got a pretty sweet setup now.
