    I own a Valentine 1 radar detector for the past year and a half. I finally got pulled over yesterday in Virginia for having a radar detector. The cop stated that V1 does not detect VG2. Is that correct? what radar detector is best suited for VA? Bel STI or Escort passport?

    Thanks in advance.

    Virginia Staties use a device called a Spectre, that detects RDs. There are only three RDs on the market that this device cannot detect. They are the Bel STi($500), the Bel STi-R($1100) and the Escort 9500ci($1600).

    Welcome to the forum. The LEO used spectre to pick up the RF signals coming from your V1. If your going to use a RD in Virginia, go with the Bel STi Driver. RDDs cannot detect it. Also, mount the RD high on your windshield and as discreetly as possible.

    Thanks to all that reply. I was able to find the STI Driver for around $500 and the STI-R for less than $600. Any difference between the two other than windshield mounted or hood mounted. Which one should I get?

    Only difference is the STI-R is a full install version of the dash mount STI.I like this style as it doesn't clutter my cabin.

    If you have the $$ I would go with the STi-R because the only thing on the inside of the car that's visible is the small readout. If you have the windshield mounted there is always a chance that a LEO could spot it...Even if it is hardwired

    Ditto +++++1.

    Do it right the first time, kiss Spectre goodbye.

    The only think I would add to this install is a custom kill switch.

    Anyone ever ask V1 how come their toy isn't immune to Spectre 4?

    I'd be curious to hear....
