Maybe the V1 was in your girlfriend's name instead of yours, so you didn't show up in the database. At that point they probably asked for a serial number so they could verify it. If your name is in their records they probably would not have asked for the serial number.

So if anyone has their V1 stolen they should report it to VR. That way the thief will never be able to buy accessories nor will they be able to get it repaired.
When I bought my first Escort back in the 80s they told me to notify them if it was ever stolen because they kept track of the serial numbers back then.

I have never been asked for a serial number when ordering accessories.

Others stated they havent ever been asked to provide a serial number when purchasing accessories. So how is one to know if you never have been asked?

Ive ordered suction cups every year for the past 3 years and have always been asked for my serial number#.

I just ordered a hardwire kit, windshield mount and extra suction cups from the website. No kind of verification, but they might have checked their database to verify I had bought a V1 in the past.

I kind of skimmed along the post, but this is a pretty useless deterrent from theft if you ask me. If I were to try to buy accessories for a hot V1, I already have a legit SN from OP's first post. Browse around eBay or some forums for some legit sellers, get those SN's and you've got yourself a list of SN's you can use to buy accessories.

So then what happens when I want to get accessories for my V1? I'm not the original owner, but it's not stolen

Not sure, think I have heard at least once that they attempted to contact the original owner.

They questioned me before about a new address based on my serial.

I have also heard of getting the seller to call VR for transfer.
Then it's like you bought it new.

I don't know how anyone could not love this, unless they
have never experienced theft or busted windows as well.
