Default Looked at some V1 patents

So I was bored and I decided to pull up the patents that valentine research has, and I found something interesting. In the patents, it talks about the detector having up to four antenna. I know that the current valentine only has two. The point raised in the patent is this. With the two antenna design, you have the left; right abiguity. That is... no way for the unit to distinguish wether the radar signal is coming from the left or the right.

If you were to have three or even four antennas, the ones on the sides would be placed at approximately 120 degrees froim the front antenna, thus allowing true directional location.

My question to you is this. Do you think that Valentine will come out with a detector with three or for antenna? Obviously they have thought about it because all of this is in there patent.

    Thoughts?

I just don't see any 4 antenna V1 coming ever. The biggest reason would be cost to make and sell especially these days when more and more people want cheaper. Stealth wise it would become as visible as a cobra to the spectre. Lastly can you imagine the flase alerts from every door opener and leaky rd on the road?? The bogey counter would need double digits just to handle the load.

They probably did that so that other competitors wouldn't try it. That's just my speculation. I don't predict VR to ever come out with another detector.

Well, on second thought. Perhaps if the company was sold to someone else it would happen.

You'll be picking up twice as many falses now.

how about separate antenna's for k and x , and separate ka band? for front and rear.... or even horizontal and vertical polarization

It is a good idea but the inability to distinguish between many door openers and true traffic radar will never allow this to happen... It would be false city.... or extreme filtering that significantly would reduce range. There will not be a 4 antenna design anytime in the near future. Unless it was 2 M3 style antenna mounted back to back....

Then you'd infringe on Escorts patents for the Redline

There's no point to having left/right differentiation. The only time the side arrow lights up is when i'm passing door openers. If a cop is off to the side, he can't measure my speed.

Well 4 antennas would allow for a lo-jack type interface where decent computing could measure the difference in signals, point an arrow right at the cop and give you signal strength.

However as was mentioned, it's the whole multiple antennae for direction finding. Patents are required to be specific, so you can't patent "multiple" as that's generic and not specific, however file a few patents close together before it gets picked up on and it makes it cost ineffective for competitors to try and use easy loopholes.

The V1 design has undergone only very minor revisions over the past decade or so. I doubt we'll see anything like more detector horns anytime soon. There just isn't any need.
