Cool Road Trip: Portland OR to San Jose California to Lake Tahoe to Reno

The trip started around June 27th. We left the house at around 6AM.
Drove from Portland, Oregon to San Jose, California and then later from SJ, CA to Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and then to Reno.

I didn't get a single Laser hit from that trip.

I had a lot of X, K, and even a Ka alert of those speed signs.

I had about 15 Ka hits during the entire trip (Weren't too many cops). Saw 1 K-band cop pull someone over in San Jose California. Speaking of California, people were driving 80MPH to 100MPH on this 60MPH freeway. WTF. People drive too fast. This was the flow of traffic too!

Sounds like a fun trip. Lake Tahoe and Reno are fun. You could have turned X off once you left Oregon ... it would have made your trip quieter.

Why is 80 to 100 too fast? Were they all crashing or causing others to crash? If not, then I guess 80 to 100 was a safe and reasonable speed. I'm sure you stayed in the Grandpa lane the whole trip instead of acting as a moving chicane on the freeway, right?

Coming from another state to Cali can be intimidating. I thought it was cool how fast they drive here when I moved here in 1990. I used to live in Arkansas and it was a nice change. I have noticed a lot more left lane hogs lately doing only 65 though in my daily commute up the 405, especially at night.

We drove a Minivan with a lot of stuff so it's hard to change lanes.

Cali had like 7 lanes and we were on the right lane and people were still passing us like crazy.

We almost got hit 3 times within a 10 minute period trying to make a lane change because cars in that back would Zoom by so fast -.-

I had a "learning curve" myself being from NC and then driving thru Cali, it's a different way of driving our here compared to back East. The biggest thing for me to learn to look out for is when I 1st started driving out thru Cali, I would see people go from the left lane and cross 4 or 5 lanes to make a exit without the turn signal.

Once you get used to driving thru Cali not such a big deal.

Welcome to CA. People drive fast. Some drive fast and smart, and some just drive stupid.

On CA freeways, the chances of seeing K-band is almost near to none. That's unless a local Sheriff or PD car is going somewhere else on the freeway.

Stalker 34.7 (Ka) is what you should expect, as well as laser. You can safely disable the X-band when you enter CA, it's not used.

As far as Oregon, I do hear that X-band is used in some parts, you might want to check the bands registry and see the locations, and adjust accordingly.

I was told that the OHP use X band, don't know why.

You have to change lanes fast, 1-2 seconds max. If you try and drift over for a 1/4 mile then yeah you'll probably get hit. You probably used turn signals too which just caused everyone to speed up to block you, LOL.
