If you all remember, I had a lot of complaints about laser and my V1 3.872.
Today, I actually got splash warning on I-70.
I was heading east on I-70 about 10 miles east of columbus. The sun was at my back (meaning the V1 couldnt be 'blinded' by it) and I was following a large pickup truck as I was driving my large pickup truck.
V1 was mounted high - to the left of my rear view mirror. I was driving in the left lane.
OSHP trooper was in the center median. Interestingly, he was outside his car with the gun on top of the roof of his police cruiser. He was using his police cruiser to steady the gun by resting the base of the gun on the roof of the cruiser. Young guy too. The reason I mention this is because I hope the new recruits use this method.
Anyways. I got 3 separate alerts of laser. The last of which is when I believe I was targeted. In the first 2 alerts, I was completely blocked by the large truck in front of me.
As with almost all ohio daytime laser traps, this laser trap did not catch me by surprise. The cop was clear out in the median and was using long distance to surprise the majority of motorists who are talking on their cell phones and only looking 200 feet down the road.
A couple things contributed to this success I think:
1. sun was at my back
2. large truck in front of me (same ride height as my large truck)
3. cop was holding the gun higher (resting it on the roof of the car) vs. lower while seated in the car shooting out a pass window.
