Unfortunately NJ uses X band so you will have to suffer falses butit is all about situational awareness so the arrows will help you where to look

if your getting falses then you shouldn't be too worried about it being out of tune,
    how old is it?
its a radar detector not a cop detector its not going to go off every time you pass a cop

oh yeah north or south nj?

    btw welcome!

Absolutely not. New Jersey is, in my opinion, one of the highest enforced states in the north east in regards to speed enforcement. NJ cops do not mess around and if your going to get serious about speeding you're going to NEED jammers, especially in New Jersey since not only do the state leo's use it, the local ones as well. Get a pair of the Laser Interceptors, and you'll have a great V1/LI combo.

Your V1 is a Radar Detector, not a cop detector. In fact, most cops don't actually have radar equipment in their car. It is more common to see a cop without radar equipment in their car rather than with it, unless he's trying to nab some speeders.

And lastly, welcome to forum. You'll find a lot of useful information here. If you have a question regarding radar detectors or laser jammers, don't hesitate to ask. But before you ask remember to use the search field above

    Welcome to the forum.

I'll add that as someone new to radar detectors it is a really good idea to spend some time in here reading the stickies and reading about tactics and such. There is a lot to know, and it is a lot less expensive to learn it by reading instead of experience. Trust me, I learned a lot the hard way ($$).

The information in here is in awesome treasure. Please take advantage of it and learn as much as you can.

    Welcome to the forum.
I agree with the others, if you are picking us the falses you are picking up radar. Not every LEO is running radar and some may be running laser so the V1 will not go off automatically alert you. At some point you may want to sent in your unit for a "tune up" to be sure you are operating at full capacity. It's not a big deal and should be done periodically (some send it in annually and others much less frequently or if the performance drops off). Good luck!
