    Default Asinine Valentine Sales

    *rant*
I ordered a concealed display and new suction cups for my Valentine. I received an email from sales@valentine saying they need my serial # for them to complete the order. That is pure BS in my opinion. What if I was purchasing these for a friend's Christmas? I would have to go to him to get HIS serial # and ruin the surprise?

I can see their need for a serial # for something that directly corresponds to a specific radar detector but not for something like these.

I am not happy about this issue to say the least. I received this email while traveling and just now got home to be able to check the serial #. The order should have been delivered already whereas I am still waiting 2 weeks later.

I could have ordered accessories from Escort and wouldn't have had to provide them with my serial #. (I have done this before.) I am now considering not purchasing another Valentine because of this poor service.

    *end of rant*

I wonder why VR needs the serial number.

With a serial number, they can tell a few things about what you need. Newer units have ESP, it's possible there is a new CD around the corner for ESP units. It will also let them know which cord you have (older cords worked better with older CD's), and don't forget that not all V1's had laser, so the CD may be different based upon that (my original V1 did not have laser, and the CD didn't show laser).

So I wouldn't say it's "asinine", rather merely an inconvenience that you don't know the reason for its existance.

They need the SN so they know the revision.

They want the serial number to see if the unit has been reported stolen to V1.
They are good at getting stolen detectors back to the proper owners.
How hard is it to walk out to your car and get the S/N number?

So explain to me how that is "poor service"?

Looking at your number of posts, I'm going to say you have not gone back to read the V1 threads. Surely you would have found about them asking for the s/n when buying accessories.

Needless to say I am glad we are not friends. Wouldn't be too happy about receiving suction cups as a gift.

It is absolutely none of Valentine's business what the serial number is when I or anyone else wants to purchase an accessory.
I can order a gun part, auto part, television part, stereo part etc. from the manufacturer without needing to provide them with a serial number.
I called V1 to order an extra power cord and was told the same thing.
    "What is your serial number"?
I told them to kiss my rear end.

Understand, it's not about the serial number, it's about the principle.
I bought a Redline the same day and a few weeks later I ordered an extra windshield mount.
Escort didn't require a serial number....and their products are also stolen.

And for those who will be compelled to ask, "no" my V1 was purchased new from V1.

Another thing that you guys in the states don't have put up with that is the overpriced detector broker. Window mounts and cords go for three or four time the cost. E.g. my remote display and audio unit cost me $200 each here in NZ $50 for a window mount etc. From I understand VR are trying to stop supplying accessories to people that do that. See it's not all about the money for some companies.
